A few new tools to me have a question.

+1 The pic is not the best, but it looks in pretty good shape to me. Besides, new paint will scratch and peel a lot quicker than the factory finish.

Which vises /vices would you keep

I think that Columbian would make an outstanding gift for your Dad. It would certainly be a big upgrade on his old Dunlap. As you said, a swivel is almost never needed. If you are going to use it as a beater on a welding table you will be better off with the rigidity of that fixed base...

    Loaded up my SO chest

I believe you are correct. I have K-Tool in that same blue box that is stamped Taiwan. I have also seen a lot of other impact drivers in that same blue box sold under various names, but all from Taiwan. I don't know who makes them, but they've sold lots of them. I'm happy with mine BTW.

    Loaded up my SO chest

Very nice stuff!! It looks like you have a nice work space there as well. It was very cruel of you to post that pic of all those beautiful green boxes with their lids closed! Could you post some pics of those socket sets for us SK fans?

Questions on vintage Cman grinder and drill press

Wow! You got a great deal. The issues you mention can be fixed easily. The block motor grinders, and the King Seeley Drill presses are some of best power tools Craftsman ever sold. Just do a google search and you' find a lot of documented restorations for both.

    YOUR tool fetish ?

I buy most of my tools these days secondhand at yardsales, estate sales, and auctions. If it is a good quality tool in good shape and selling cheap, its hard to resist. I'm always on the lookout for good punches, cold chisels, and taps. I can't resist good screwdrivers for 50 cents a-piece. Of...

    ACE Brand Tools

Since no one seems to know for sure, I'll make a reasonable guess. When I bought mine I wanted to know who made it as well so I did some searching. The only American made pipe wrench that I can find that looks anything like the Ace wrench is Matco...

    ACE Brand Tools

Ace does sell U.S. made pipe wrenches under their own brand. I have a 10 inch model that I just bought a couple months ago and it is marked Ace Hardware and USA. The stores around here carry three different brands of pipe wrenches: cheap imports (I think their VPT brand), the U.S. made Ace...

Morgan vise on Craigslist - opinions?

Morgan's are top notch vises, but a 3 1/2 inch model is rather small. I would suggest finding a larger one. I think a 4 1/2 inch vise is ideal for the average Joe. A 4 inch vise will also do, but a 3 1/2 just doesn't open wide enough for a lot of things. If your sure the 3 1/2 will meet your...

Cool. My new to me Craftsman bench grinder. A few questions...

Great find AZCactus, Those grinders were manufactured from the early 1960s until the early 80s. The older ones (60s and early 70s) use a slightly different motor housing. Yours was made mid 70s or later. If the bearings are good and the switch functions properly, just give it a good cleaning...

    Real Value of this deal?

For the price he's asking, larger sets are available for a lot less money, although not Snap-On. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001355MX6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Factory Reconditioned tools???

BTW, why in the world does Uncle Joe need to spend money on tools? The most work I ever remember him doing was painting a few bed sheets.

    Factory Reconditioned tools???

I have purchased several reconditioned power tools and been very pleased with them. Sometimes I've gotten tools that appeared to be brand new other times times they were obviously used, but they have always function perfectly for me. I suppose you are taking a greater risk with a reconditioned...
