Best way to fix this exhaust tip?

But in my experience, some helpful friend who does know will be sure to point it out for you.

    Adjustable rolling axle stands

Still lots of them around, but the nice ones are now becoming summer driven classic cars so not seen a lot out on the streets. Mines a 79 coupe that started life as a plain-jane 2.3L 4cyl. Now its becoming an autocross/track/street car with a 68 J code 302 that's punched out to 307. There are...

Not my stands, but it is my car at the paint shop.

Exactly what does Plastigage tell you?

We did exactly that when I worked as an engine rebuilder. The straight edge we used for that task was a round bar style. Feeler gauges were used to determine if there was any misalignment in the bores just as one would use a straight edge to check a surface for flatness. As for the original...

    Open Car Trailer Improvements

I'd like to know a bit more on your over the wheel tie downs. I will be looking to buy a trailer sometime in the future for my 79 Mustang to take it to track days, autocross etc. It's quite low and getting underneath to tie down is challenging, plus there are not a lot of good places to get an...

    cutting drywall question

The problem with a joint at a door or window opening is when it is at the edge of the opening where the corner is. It is OK if you need to have a joint there to place it at the middle of the opening. Still not ideal, but better.

    Home made sheet metal brake.

Nice bit of fabrication there. My home made brake is nowhere near as fancy, but it works well up to the .040 aluminum and 20 gauge sheet metal that I use it for.

    BendPak going gray

Blue, gray (grey), they are still great lifts. Mine is blue, but if I had been willing to wait for a special order and pay the extra, I would have gone with red.

Alternative to bendpak rj45 rolling jack?

I made the wheels on my lathe, so can't help with a source for them aside from making your own. They are solid steel so I doubt they will ever fail. The wheels only bear the weight of the jack when it is not lifting. They are mounted on springs so that the jack settles down onto the original...

Alternative to bendpak rj45 rolling jack?

I have a Bendpak HD9 lift and wanted a rolling bridge jack for it to work on my 79 Fox as well. I too found the Bendpak unit to be a bit steep so I found this one, which is very much the same as the alternative you found. Half the cost of the Bendpak and I was able to pick it up locally, so no...

Clean up and keep it that way!

The weather is a bit cooler today, so I'm going to spend some time clearing junk from the attic. I too have been getting more ruthless with organizing my shop and disposing of unnecessary clutter.

Micro "stick" computers for garage use

I re-purpose my old desktops for use in the garage. I just replaced the main home computer a couple weeks ago and formatted and reloaded the operating system to the old one for the shop. I had been making do with an old tablet and a net book computer out in the shop since the really old shop...

aquarium stand - square tubing question

I've built a few stands in the past. My current 135 gallon salt water tank sits on a stand I built about twelve years ago. I used 1' x 1"x .125" square for the legs and base frame, the top frame is 1"x 2" x.125" on edge. My tank is only 4' long, so the spans between the six uprights is 2'. No...

    Show us your welding projects

Added a small TIG/Stick welder to my arsenal so I needed to redo my welding cart to fit it. The original cart was a freebie from a buddy. I don't know what its original purpose was, but I cobbled it up as a welding cart, then re-cobbled it up for a new MIG to replace the little cheapo one I...

    Valve job question -

I used to work in a machine shop doing engine rebuilding. Installed and cut many many stellite seats. You have to be able to face them to get the correct seat geometry to get the correct valve to seat contact for a seal. Properly cut seats and valves never need to be lapped in. Lapping is a...

    Valve job question -

Typically the deciding factor on if a valve is reusable is the condition of the stem. If it is worn, it will never seal well as it has too much movement in the guide. You'll also want to ensure the guides are not excessively worn. Those valves look just fine to re-grind the faces. The seats also...

Framing Carpenters- Which way to add on to garage?

I'd just choose the direction that is going to be the most functional for how you want to use the added space and accept the cost of that choice.

88 Mustang LX - Turbo LS Build

I'm in the Power by Ford camp and that is what i'm running in my 79 Coupe. But you're building a great looking car there. I'd ditch the upper arms on the rear and go with a torque arm Panhard bar set up instead. If you try to tighten up the control arms with stiffer bushings and arms, you...
