    Would you do it?

Well I have a bad track record of not doing what makes sense for good resale value, so I would definitely open it up. The simplest way would be the double fire rated door opening into the bedroom space. That would leave the work in the room itself to a minimum and would be easy to close off for...

    Welding on a leaf spring

Exactly. Its the dynamic loading that a spring gets in its intended application that would lead to cracking.

How old were you when you built your (dream?) garage?

My first dream garage I built at age 27. The second one I was 34 and then my dream grew at 47. I'm always dreaming of bigger and better, doubt I'll ever stop doing so.

    Which welder for body work

I've been giving my 211 a good workout lately welding up a 10 point cage in my 79 Mustang as well as some sheet metal work on it. Definitely use the smaller wire for sheet metal. I was having a heck of a time using .030. Switched to .024 and it's way better. Also with the 211, running it on 110v...

    Bose sound system..

My wife has a Bose dock for her i-Pod too. Never tried to get radio with it, she just uses her own music over it. I do know that to use the FM radio with the i-Pods that have that feature you have to have a set of ear buds or headphones plugged in as the cord serves as the antennae. Not sure if...

    Adding third bay?

Mine's a detached garage, but I added a third bay onto it a couple years ago. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164214

    32x24 or 36x22?

I'd go with the 32x24 (which is the size of my original garage coincidentally). The 22' dimension will limit you putting cabinets or benches in and still leaving length for a larger vehicle like a pick up truck.

    BendPak Drooping floor ramp Fix

Nice mod. I still have to remove mine as they extend past the door when in place.

    "ShopDog" a better Sawhorse build

I built a set of them too a couple months ago. I had some nice saw horses all ready, but they are not foldable and took up a lot of space to store. This design seemed pretty good, so I went ahead and got the plans and built them. I added a couple of stretchers to span across between them to...

Does Spending Time in your Garage, Help or Hurt your Marrage?

My shop time is usually during the daytime when my wife is at work anyway. As a firefighter, I work shift work, so I have days off during the week when she is working. And since a lot of what I work on is to her benefit, there is not much trouble from her about it. If anything, it's my regular...

    Limestone 24' x 12' Motorcycle Garage/Workshop in Australia

That would have been cool inside if you could have kept it visible. Still, Neat little space your building.

Plan your garage with a lift carefully!

My addition where my lift is housed is only 12' wide by 22' deep, which makes it 11'6" by 21' inside. I have a Bendpak HD9 lift in there and the columns have only about 6" clearance to the walls, there is sufficient space between the columns and my wife's car to ease past. It's not ideal, but...

    My mess in Canada

Persistence and determination will get that garage the way you want it. My own shop evolved into a rats nest of clutter, and so when I finally got to work doing the addition I had wanted, I committed to spending the time and effort to get it better organised too. Its mostly there now, but I...

Anyone use their shopvav as a dust collector? Advice, Tips?

A shopvac is not the best solution for dust collection, but it's better than nothing for sure. The cyclone units will help a lot to keep the filter from plugging up so quickly. A couple options to consider for that: 1. The Oneida dust deputy comes in several versions. 2. A garbage can or...

    Sawstop mobile base build

I just bought the same Sawstop Professional series 3.0 hp. Still waiting for the 36" fence to come in, but got the rest of it setup and ready to go. I just opted for the basic mobile base as I will very seldom move it anyway. Its just to make the job easier if I ever do need to. Nice work on...
