protecting walls when hanging tools on wall

Interesting. Plywood would have been more useful for my purposes, but in my neighborhood the attached garages were drywalled when initially built decades ago. Not worth removing and installing plywood/OSB.

Should I Use a Concrete Surface Grinder or Angle Grinder on Garage Porch Slope

I used a diamond cup grinding wheel on a 4-1/2" angle grinder on concrete. A 7" grinder will make quick work of this. To somewhat control the dust, I got one of those aftermarket dust shrouds that has a vac port. Of course you'll still need to wear a respirator, but this did help.

protecting walls when hanging tools on wall

Good question. I was specifically thinking of a pair of steel vehicle ramps. The lower edge is fairly sharp and it wants to swing into the wall. But I suppose it's easier to eventually patch the dent in the drywall than bother with fastening something to the wall and have to patch that at some...

How much weight can be suspended via bolts in 3/4" plywood?

This guy is making a budget DIY Levrack (see thread here for discussion of DIY Levracks: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/anyone-come-up-with-levrack-alternatives.519559/). He's hanging each shelving unit from 4 points in the 3/4" plywood. Looks like maybe 3/8" (at most) bolts...

protecting walls when hanging tools on wall

I'm organizing the garage and hanging a bunch of stuff on the wall. What to do about protecting the walls from the bottom of items that want to swing into the wall when being hung from hooks? I was thinking I could cut a strip of 1/2" foam board and secure via drywall anchors, but figured GJ...

Anyone come up with Levrack Alternatives?

That it's all hanging from 3/4" thick plywood had me worried. I think the fact that there are many professionals on GJ, some of whom actually need their shelves to hold lots of weight, influences the DIYers to think we need more weight capacity than we realistically need. There are shelves...

Anyone come up with Levrack Alternatives?

This guy released a video earlier this month on his budget build DIY Levrack. No strut channel, no fancy trolleys, no aluminum plate, no steel. Just lumber, plywood and $4 wheels.

DIY Universal Power Tool Battery - Possible?

There is a company making a universal battery. I forget the name, but I think I saw it on sixtyfiveford's YT channel. They sell a slim adapter for each brand, and their battery is slim as well, so the stack is shorter than the usual adapter + battery stack. This is a relatively new product. I...

    Generator - A/C

Why 2 in each main panel instead of just 1? I have one and I thought that was how they are supposed to be installed.

    workbenches on Facebook marketplace

Good point. Exactly my rationale for buying a used small metal cabinet with drawers I'm going to drop into my workbench - I want to add drawers to my workbench, but don't want to make this a project in itself.

    workbenches on Facebook marketplace

I sometimes see workbenches on FB Marketplace. Who is buying a workbench? Aren't the people who need workbenches the kind who will make their own? Setting aside specialty workbenches like a fabrication table for welding, where the materials can cost significantly more than the price of the used...

Insect damage to bottom of wall studs

Your exterminator should be very familiar with what pharoah ant damage looks like, and if it's his opinion those very neatly trimmed stud bottoms are ant damage, who am I to say otherwise. Carpenter ants tunnel, termites tunnel. But maybe pharoah ants are the miter saws of wood eating insects...

Insect damage to bottom of wall studs

LOL, if that was ants, I'd like to hire them to cut, errr, I mean chew, some wood for me.

Insect damage to bottom of wall studs

    1. sounds like you should sister in studs, rather than shimming potentially compromised studs. And closely examine the bottom plate for damage. 2. figure out how the ants got there. With termites, it's pretty easy to figure out and prevent it going forward. Dunno about pharoah ants, but you'll...

Storing and mounting multiple bench grinders and sanders

Could mount each grinder to a hitch, and mount receiver to workbench. Another option:

Parts for DIY leads for automotive electrical diagnostics - how to wire up and use?

Maybe a decade ago, I was inspired by youtube channel Schrodinger's Box to do DIY auto diagnostics instead of merely changing parts to solve an issue, and I bought a bunch of parts to create my own leads. Well, life got in the way, and these parts have sat around for years, and I'm finally...

used Dewalt table saw - is this a decent price?

I know Stumpy Nubs has been talking about this, but is it actually going to happen? Yeah, if it does, the consumer and contractor portable new saws will skyrocket in price, and so will the used saw market. Instantly stopping a 10" saw blade in a portable table saw will not be cheap. LOL, now...

used Dewalt table saw - is this a decent price?

This thing was barely used. Other than a little sawdust, it looks new. Included all the accessories down to push stick and blade wrench. Plus stand. $175 total.

used Dewalt table saw - is this a decent price?

Found a guy selling a DWE7480 with stand (fixed, not rolling) for $200. Says it includes fence, miter gauge, blade guard. Assuming the saw runs, is this a good deal?

Anyone come up with Levrack Alternatives?

Thanks for the clarification. Do you think a modified version of your setup, with only one angle iron track (at the rear, with V-groove casters) and swivel casters at the front, to eliminate any potential trip hazard, would work? I'm thinking the swivel casters may want to rotate when changing...
