OMT blade to cut cement board

I need to cut some installed 1/2" cement board, and access is limited, so I'll have to use an oscillating multitool. Need to cut 2 linear feet. What's a good blade for this that isn't going to get dulled almost immediately?

    Cord reel for 100ft 12/3

I picked up the Lowes version of the HDX reel with handle and stand. Like you said, it's full, but it fits. Good enough for under $15 for infrequent use.

    Cord reel for 100ft 12/3

Yeah, I use that over under method, and it works fine on shorter cords, but the 100ft cord will usually end up with a tangle, so when I need all 100ft, I almost always have to waste time untangling. Tired of it.

    Cord reel for 100ft 12/3

My bad. I only mentioned stand and handle, but just edited it to specifically mention portability.

    Cord reel for 100ft 12/3

No, because I need it to be portable, so air hose reels are generally out, and I don't want the bulk of a garden hose reel. I'll give the HDX reel version with handle and stand (advertised as holding 150ft 16/3 cord) a try, since guys are reporting that this will work. My 100ft 12/3 cord is...

    Cord reel for 100ft 12/3

Update: Started this thread a year ago, and bought the cheap reel that HD/Lowes sell with 150ft 16ga capacity. Been using it for a year, and while it does barely hold 100ft of 12/3, and is better than coiling by hand, it *****. Unless I'm reeling the cord very neatly, the last few yards of cord...

tips for air sealing attic floor

I'm going to replace the very old, worn down insulation on my attic floor, but before I install R23 5-1/2" (joist height) stone wool batts (and then I'll lay another layer of batts perpendicular that will cover the joists and mitigate thermal bridging through the joists), I want to air seal the...

    Pegasus Worx or Jawhorse?

Yeah, that would really seal the deal. For a lot of DIY tasks (perhaps most?), aluminum would be sufficient. Surprised no one has done this. Then again, maybe the market for these clamping workbenches isn't large enough to bother. HF used to sell one under their Franklin brand. Ridgid also had...

    Pegasus Worx or Jawhorse?

Currently use a couple of old HF workmate knockoffs, these are the flimsy TV tray style. Super cheap, and after several years of use, they are getting worn out. Trying to decide on replacement, and the Pegasus Worx and Jawhorse seem to be the most popular of their respective folding worktable...

    cutting steel flush with concrete

Fair enough, I could have been more clear. I knew it was lumpy around the tracks when I first posted, but didn't see how lumpy until I got down there to cut and grind today. Decent amount of concrete was above 'level' and inside the track. When they poured it, they probably couldn't be bothered...

    cutting steel flush with concrete

Cut two of the tracks today, then got in there with regular grinding wheel. It was slow going through the concrete (it was mounded up in some spots, especially inside the track, so there was a fair amount of concrete that needed to be ground down to get the area flattish. If I had a lot of these...

    cutting steel flush with concrete

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I don't try to grind with cutoff discs. Having multiple grinders with different discs/wheels helps avoid the temptation to grind immediately after cutting and avoid the hassle of changing disc/wheel.

    cutting steel flush with concrete

Good idea, thanks. Yeah, I'm gonna with grinding wheels. They're cheap, and I have plenty of them and it sounds like they'll get the job done w/o having to resort to more expensive wheels. Learned about some fancy new blades and wheels from this thread though.

    cutting steel flush with concrete

Interesting. I would've guessed concrete would very quickly wear out a flap disc.

    cutting steel flush with concrete

I have to remove garage door tracks that are set in concrete. I'll cut them as close to the ground as possible without risking shattering the cut-off disc (concrete is not very flat around the tracks). Before I install new tracks, I'd like to clean it up a bit. What's the best way to get the...

Organization is a goal, not a destination

Some people love having a disorganized (in the eyes of others, but not in their own eyes) garage/shop, but since that's not you, I'll offer a couple of tips. 1. When things don't have a home, we default to any convenient location, which is reflected by your statement: "My "misc drawer" is any...

How much weight can be suspended via bolts in 3/4" plywood?

There was a thread on Levrack alternatives where a member here used tracks on the ground. The issue, at least for some, is the potential trip hazard, in particular the track you'd have to step over to get into the space between cabinets.

    Prepping garage doors for paint

I actually picked this up last night, but haven't opened it up yet. Now that I'm using heat, I can see one major problem - the plastic touches the blades, so this probably won't work well with heat. Hyde makes a heat safe version with a metal shaft.

    Prepping garage doors for paint

Yeah, the heat is a game changer. I went from thinking I got in way over my head (without the heat), to thinking I can probably git'er done (with the heat). What's a quick method to get the scraper clean? I'm using another scraper to clean off the scraper, but hard to get it all off, so I just...

    Prepping garage doors for paint

Thanks for the info. Now that I've got the heat gun going, I think I'll be able to scrape down to the point where it won't be possible to chip off paint using my nails. Should make for much less sanding to feather out what remains.
