    Quick-release fasteners?

    My girlfriend is a dog musher (I know, right?). She has a three-wheeled dryland cart that folds down so it can be mounted on a trailer hitch. To fold it down requires removing two bolts with wingnuts. The sled is a hard tail, the trails around here are very rocky, and the wingnuts routinely...

    Name that threadless bolt...

    I'm trying to figure out where I can source a few more of this bolt: It has no threads and there is a hole at the bottom. I'm capable of drilling a hole in a bolt, but all of my tools are currently in storage, so it would be nice if I could avoid it. In any event, is there a name for this...

    Williams Forsaire Counterflow...Correct behavior?

    Well, I think the fan is controlled by the Honeywell unit in the furnace (at least it's not being controlled by the old White-Rodgers). If I jump the W wire to the R wire, everything works as intended. It makes me think my W connection to the Nest is poor, or maybe I damaged something internally...

    Williams Forsaire Counterflow...Correct behavior?

    That is very helpful. After leaving it off all day, it has been running steadily, so I'll see how it does over time. When it has been left off for a long time, the fan howls and squeals for a few minutes, so I guess I gotta oil that sucker up... I attempted to install a Nest thermostat, and it...

    Williams Forsaire Counterflow...Correct behavior?

    I just moved into a house with one of those tall furnaces that stick out of the wall. It could be 5 years old, it could be 30 years old. I've never seen a heater like this, and I'm trying to figure out if it's behaving as intended... I'll hear it click on for a minute (warming up?), then the...

    Transporting/shipping an 850 pound scissor lift

    Some good ideas in here... How would the equation change if I had to get it up into a U-Haul or pickup truck?

    Transporting/shipping an 850 pound scissor lift

    Ah, I wasn't clear: I'm shipping a bunch of **** in a POD regardless, and I can fit the lift in terms of weight and space. I'm literally just wondering what would be involved in getting the damn thing in and out of my garage here and my garage there.

    Transporting/shipping an 850 pound scissor lift

    I'm moving from the East Coast to the West Coast and I have a BendPak MD-6XP scissor lift in my garage. My plan for moving is to fill something like one of those POD things and have it shipped across (7' x 7', 4,400 pound limit). The pump is designed such that I can move the whole thing by...

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    When you're dealing with a $300 trunk latch, you take the time and energy to figure it out.

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    I bought a cheap media blast gun...I guess I'll just give all the approaches a whirl. Anyone ever heard of Picklex? http://picklex20.com/metal-surface-preparation/

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    I have a powder coater, and use it where I want color...You still have to get the parts clean.

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    This is helpful. I hadn't considered some of these options. Painting and powdercoating doesn't work for threaded stuff (though I guess once a fastener is fastened with anti-seize or loctite, it's unlikely to corrode). A thing I particularly like about zinc plating is that it can still protect...

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    Random links I've found so far... Tumbler stuff: http://www.kramerindustriesonline.com/finishing-guides/faq.htm http://www.raytechmetalfinishing.com/science-mass-finishing.php The walnut I've been using is way too mild. It looks like plastic or HD ceramic stuff is the better way to go...

    Dirty/rusty parts -> ( ? ) -> Clean/plated parts

    I work on cars and motorcycles. These cars have rusty and dirty parts. When I take one off, I'd like to put it back on nice and clean, coated in zinc for corrosion protection. This includes bolts and washers and fasteners and what not. Cleaning is a pain. My method for years has been Simple...

    Which single carport / shelter?

    That would be cool, but it seemed cost-prohibitive.

    Which single carport / shelter?

    This is a hilarious thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/do-i-have-to-pull-a-permit-carport.636684/ Looks like my first step is to find out what requires a permit and what doesn't.

    Which single carport / shelter?

    There aren't much in the way of rules in this area, but I wouldn't want to build a permanent structure. Looking around, it does seem like the canvas stuff would either blow away or need to be re-secured periodically. I wonder if it would be wiser to get a cheapo steel structure over...

    Which single carport / shelter?

    Random companies I found googling "carport": http://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/carports-shelters/c-5860.htm http://www.walmart.com/c/kp/carports http://www.ecanopy.com/car---truck-shelters.html https://carport1.com/index.php

    Which single carport / shelter?

    I have a spot in my driveway that I'd like to park something shiny in, and I'd like to protect it from the elements. Does anyone have any experience with these? If it could fit a short full-sized van, that'd be great, but it really only needs to fit something the size of a Corvette. Primary...
