Has anyone built a 40” to 48” wide wooden tool drawer cabinet?

This is something similar I have been contemplating for my 30" deep workbench. I've got too much space that is inconvenient to get to. I like the thoughts of pull-out shelves and maybe a small, shallow drawer.

If you had 50$ to spend.

Been there, done that.... I know where’s there’s one pair of the Duckbill pliers #91643, but nothing else. Was looking for slip joint and 6” long nose. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

    good marking pen/pencil for metal

FastCap Long Nose Pattern Marker seems to be a decent pen so far for me. https://www.rokhardware.com/fastcap-long-nose-pattern-marker-black.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAyeTxBRBvEiwAuM8dnTuB4cFTj9fZBdDA5op9FS3MpnYLRBaTqyfRpLq0uRqK4qJfsuQN8BoCGdYQAvD_BwE I always make sure I put the cap on it and store...

    ratchet drive size crossover points

You’ll tend to find tighter places in auto interiors and will gravitate towards 1/4”. In the engine bay, a little more “umph” may be needed but space may still be a little tight, so 3/8 is a good compromise. Under the car/truck larger bolts and more leverage would necessitate the 1/2...

    Blackhawk toolbox

Very jealous of the box. I keep hoping that I can get lucky and find something like that. Sorry I can’t really help you with finding Blackhawk stuff, I only have my dad’s 49945 1/2” ratchet. No idea when he bought it. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

    Blackhawk toolbox

Goo Gone has a “Automotive” safe gel that is safe for automotive paint. You can try that. A dishwashing soap like Dawn may also work since it’s formulated to remove grease. To gently remove the grime yet protect the paint, go slow and expect slow results. That grime has had years to...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I assume you’re talking about the metal base with red plastic dividers. I agree, I do like the fact you can remove the little end cap off the base and remove a divider if you want to. The dividers are hard to adjust, but that is a good thing since you don’t want them moving around once loaded...

How good are SK tools socket and ratchet sets

It may be different in CA, but I found a couple of the 45170 ratchets a couple of weeks ago at a local flea market and only paid $3 each. They show honest wear but not abused nor rusty. They were smooth, but I could tell that they would be better with a little cleaning. Keep your eyes open...

    Let's see your toolbox.

Search Garage Journal and you’ll find plenty of threads analyzing the available options... My first stop was Harbor Freight for different storage accessories. They have some wrench rails, pliers racks you can check out without spending an arm and a leg on. Sent from my iPhone using Garage...

what to look for in used socket wrenches

I’ve picked up a few S-K 45170 3/8” ratchets and they feel good in the hand and even better in action. I would keep an eye out for one of them or a Proto. It seems like the S-K ratchets are usually overlooked and under appreciated. If you find one, put a socket on the ratchet and turn it and...

    Budget Tool Brands

Weekend before last, I picked up two 45170 ratchets at a flea market for $3 each (and a New Britain NB44). They worked fine and even better after cleaning and lubing. They do show some wear, more of a satin finish, not shiny chrome. A little wear on the sides of the head and a little wear on...

    SK 3/8" Ratchet Recommendations?

The S-K 45170 is probably the most plentiful and a very smooth ratchet with a little cleaning and lubing. I picked up two last weekend, although I didn’t need them, opened them up, cleaned and lubed and they work great. I think I am going to upgrade one of mine to the 80 tooth just to see. If...

Indestro Super rat snap ring help!

I’m familiar with the S&K ratchets as I’ve pulled several apart for cleaning. That little retaining ring is a booger to get off and on. I thought maybe a Housing Retaining Ring -Internal could possibly work. This is the type retaining ring holding the internals of a New Britain ratchet...

    Electric Power Washer?

Agree. Sun Joe SPX3000 is simple and effective. Add the foam cannon for a great way to wash your car. Just be sure to do it in the shade so the soap foam doesn’t dry. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

    Williams S-52EHL

I’m (still) going through some of my father’s tools that I inherited and I came across an older Williams S-52EHL (no “A”) ratchet that has some broken teeth and it skips. I’ve contacted Williams about a repair kit and was given a part number #S-52EHRK. Unfortunately, it appears that this kit...

    2020 Garage Sale Thread

Probably not really worthy of this thread, but thought I would share anyway. Went to a flea market on Sunday and happened across a table that had a few 3/8” ratchets. The seller gave me a price of $4 each. I looked over them and there were several no names with plastic selectors, a Craftsman...
