Well got it home today and stripped it all down. Upon closer inspection it appears that 95% or more of the original gold paint seems to be intact under a thick layer of caked on dirt. I have the arbor soaking in a gentile solution of Tide liquid laundry detergent and warm water and will agitate...

Thanks for all the input but I missed the boat. The saw has been sold. Probably for the best because I really didn't need that 300 lb. obstacle sitting in the middle of my upcoming garage rehab. I'm sure it'll make a nice refurb for whoever got it.

All I know is there were about 10 kits on the shelf and most all of them had $99.99 price tags on them as did the price marker attached to the shelf. They may not be worth it but that's what they were marked. Yes, the ratchet looks a bit weak but that will go in the $5 bin at the swap met next...
