safety glass mod for pencil holder

I got frustrated because I can't hold a pencil behind my ear with safety glasses on. I now wear safety glass 100% off the time in the shop because I've had so much **** get in my eyes over the years. Pulling wood or metal splinters out of your eye ball *****. I looked online for safety glasses...

plastic fittings to allow copper to go through steel girts

I'm having trouble finding some fittings because I'm not sure what they are called, or even if they exist. I couldn't find anything at the depot. I need to pass 3/4" copper through steel girts on a metal building. I'm hoping there is some sort of push in plastic clamp / busing because I really...

framing question, can I put a door next to a wall?

Is it legal to put a door right next to a wall, or do I need a couple studs in between? Check out the picture of the proposed for location. It will have double 2x6 top plates, with double 2x12 rim joists running parallel to that wall.

Harbor freight 29 gallon, or 60 gallon compressor?

    I'm strongly leaning towards getting a HF belt driven oil based compressor. I can't decide between the 29 gallon, 2hp, 5.9cfm @90psi, 82dB, $359 http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/air-compressors/29-gal-2-hp-150-psi-cast-iron-vertical-air-compressor-61489.html and the 60 gallon, 5hp, 2...

    how would you frame this?

I have a bit of a dilemma trying to fame a window header. The window is close to the ceiling so I'm limited on height. It's 1.5" to the bottom of my first top plate. My plans spec out a 4x6 with the 4" running vertical. I plan on running double trim studs next to the king stud. Here are some...

craftsman compressor started blowing the circuit

After 10 years I think it's on its last legs. It started blowing a 20a circuit with only a stereo running on that one. I thought it might be a bad breaker, so i switched it to a 15a. I've run this thing on a 15a for many many years and never had an issue. It wouldn't even make a noise, just...

double studs parallel to bottom plate ok?

There are these tension wires that are right in the middle of where my studs need to go. Do you guys think the inspector will be cool if I do double studs 16oc, but install them parallel to the plate? I cut out a spot for either end where the wire us low, for a perpendicular stud, and will nail...

    beam size?

I'm going to build a mezzanine over half of my shop. The span is 22' for the beams, and 15' for the rafters. I'm thinking about buying, or welding up some brackets to hold large beams off the main I beams. My guess is to use 4x12s for the beams, and 2x12s 16" oc for the rafters. Is that plenty...

Ok to drill holes in grits of steel building?

Most of the conduit and water lines can be routed around the girts, but There will be some that I will need to drill ~3/4" holes in to make it work. Is there any concern with this? How should I protect the EMT and Cu water pipes where they penetrate a girt?

And off when it says on. What's up with that? I never noticed because I just flip it when I need to. If you look at the vom, it says mv.

Attaching MC cable to steel building

What kind of fasteners are you guys using to attach MC cable to the girts? I read on one thread that MC is no allowed from 0-8' above the floor. Is that true? I saw these magnet things (mag daddy) at the electrical supply house and they seem cool, but expensive. Can I use sticky tabs that...

    125a sub panel ?s

I'm adding a 125a sub panel off of a 200a main panel that is ~100' away. Most of the run is under my house, and the rest (~15') is in 2" conduit underground. Under the house I was going to tie the wires into the rest of the electrical wires that run under the house. I was planning on using #2...

    New build 25x33x16 steel

Hey Guys, I am in the process of finishing up a metal work shop. It's 25x33 because it hits my setbacks on 3 sides and that was as big as I could go. The concrete guys went nuts and poured 6' footers on the low side! 2.5 trucks worth of concrete for the lower half of the footers! The pour was...
