Getting a few pieces of metal made/bent?

Sheetmetal shops typically do light gage work - like ductwork. Also, as mentioned, a brake is going to have some issues doing something that narrow. I faced a similar issue. Bought a length of rectangular tube - my distributor will cut to length - and sliced the one side off with the bandsaw.

Has anyone removed regular trusses and installed attic trusses?

Some of it depends on how things are currently configured. A guy I know just did this to his garage last summer - stripped off the existing trusses to the tops of the walls and installed new trusses. Sold the old trusses to someone else who was building a shed.

    monkey spit

Personally, the fact that the “technical specs” don’t state any ASTM, ISO, or other designations says to me that I’ll stick with the known and proven products. Monkey Spit Specifications: Loctite Blue Specifications: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/tds/T_LKR_BLUE_tds.pdf

To Lift or Not to Lift? That is the question.

I’ve seen that argument a number of times, but there really isn’t anything that says you need to be able to walk under the car to work on it. Yes, it can be easier for some things, but just get yourself a rolling stool and there isn’t much need to be able to stand up under it.

To Lift or Not to Lift? That is the question.

Here is the manual: http://www.directlift.com/Assets/manuals//Pro9F.pdf There are equalizing cables and a hydraulic hose going between the two uprights just covered with a plate. You can mount the uprights closer together, adjust the cables, and either shorten the hose or possibly even keep it...

    Don Campbell's Workshop

Simply amazing work you’re doing here, Don - both the models as well as the modified tractors. As you’ve said, it just goes to show what you can do with some simple tools and a lot of motivation! I’d love to see more pictures of how you go about fabricating the parts and pieces. Although, I...

    Raising an existing garage?

I seem to recall a few discussions here of people doing just that. I’d agree with Cobbler that doing the courses of block would be a good way to go.

Accurately layout and drill holes in sides of 4" channel?

Lay it out and use the mag drill. For me it would be easier to take the mag drill to the channel than to take the channel to the drill press - so a no brainer. And if you have access to a mag drill or a drill press I wouldn’t bother about considering any of the others unless I was making many of...

    concrete heave

Improper sub-grade prep. It will continue to heave until it cracks.

20x40 slab is unlevel on the width...how much slope is too much?

I have no idea why anyone would pour a slab like that - unless they had some plans to build on top of it. Personally, I’d use a hammerdrill to check a few spots to guarantee it is what was said. And - unless it has reinforcing in it, “eight inch beams” really aren’t going to mean anything. You...

Problem with deck not built to plan, legal options?

There should be change orders or an as-built plan on file. You can't just change things as you go along without documentation.

    Home Built Truck Bed Slide

Unfortunately, I'm going to say - from experience - that the particle board just isn't going to hold up to the stresses. Good idea, but plywood would have been a much better choice.

30x24 for a full size truck???

Putting my regular cab longbed into my 24' deep shop has the back end right against the garage door and the front end right against the workbench along the wall with just enough room to squeeze around the front - or the back - but not both. And my 9'x9' doors are a tight fit to get it in unless...

Problem with deck not built to plan, legal options?

Could be difficult to prove that the original owner did not sign off on the changes without getting them involved and establishing a paper trail.

28x40 garage wall falls who to blame???

Where are you located? Here in PA, you need a full set of plans, inspection before foundation is poured, inspection of foundation walls before backfill, inspection of framing while still exposed...

28x40 garage wall falls who to blame???

Have to agree with Dan. The garage clearly shows that the mason has no idea what he is doing. Perhaps he got lucky, perhaps not.

Stupid Garage Plan Question - Details Required?

There is a difference between permit drawings and construction drawings. Typically, permit drawings are only concerned with HSW (health, safety, welfare) issues and code issues. Construction details are of less concern to them if it isn't a code or HSW issue.

    Cracked and sunken slab (pics)

Unfortunately, you'll still find a lot of contractors who will run the skidloader over it a few times and say that reinforcing in slabs is a waste of money because "that's the way they always do it..." :dunno:
