Most electrical, mechanical, plumbing contractor's will not work with materials that are not supplied by them. If you supply material and then they have to go out and get more, they may charge you more if they have to go out of their way to find matching material. You don't want any of those...

Ben's right. There's also a lot of work that goes on before they get out to the sight as well. Investigation in to the property can sometimes take a while if there's a convoluted history of the property. Getting the original plats from the city/county is sometimes a big issue and time consuming.
