I'd second the Woden guess, but it's really only based on my own research without any hard evidence as well. I owned a #2 with the same empty oval on it's side, but there wasn't a legible decal left on the front of the dynamic jaw to prove anything. :headscrat

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I just paid $30 for one locally in Ontario, but they seem to be all over the place in price, usually around here they seem to be in the $60-$90 range in the classifieds. If you wait, you'll get a deal. keep your eye on Kijiji and Craigslist. That looks great!

Chilang, great job on the collection! Autopts, I agree, that Prentiss does look off. There's something a little sneaky going on with the placement of that magnet on the back of the slide during the photos. The description is slightly misleading as well, still not really a reason for it to...

I had a hunch this would show up here! I had the message box open and was about to respond when I realized the last thing I needed was another project. At $40, that was a great deal  I actually sold my Woden No.2 to 'ive', on Kijiji yesterday to a fellow GJ'er yesterday, and was...

The Olivia vise is a really nice design, it looks very balanced. I was just cleaning up my latest project, and randomly started thinking about buying a smoker. As I leaned in closer to the old sawdust, grease and grime I realized the previous owner must have worked with a lot of hickory...

Thank you, I appreciate it! Thanks for the compliment on the Wilton, and the info on your #23! Just trying to come up with some comparative info for the #83, which is actually smaller @ 3 1/4" jaws. I thought that maybe the '3' indicated 3" jaws, but I gess not. I snapped a couple of jaw...

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the Wilton, pretty happy with how it turned out! Very nice vise! What is the jaw width on the #23? I just started on my #83 and it is currently in the same state as yours originally was. Grease and sawdust that has turned to fossilized amber, and the...

Got it! I just went out and looked at my Woden #2, but I think the concept is the same. - Remove the dynamic from the static jaw. - Slide the main screw through the jaw - slide the spring over the screw, followed by the washer. - tension the spring and washer and secure them in place with the...

Thanks! I've tried to bring myself to letting it go in it's previous guise a couple of times, and just can't. I've got about $120 total into it now, and not sure what it would take to get it off of my bench.... although, they would look great side by side. For now, it will keep the Brits in...

For $30, go back for it! It's cheaper than a good boat anchor  Reassembled the 600 last night, and pretty happy with it, much better than the safety yellow it was previously. I flipped the jaws, added new allen screws, and cleaned up the exposed metal a little bit. I'll need to find...

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately I just sprayed Tremclad 'Hammered' Silver all over it. It would only take 20 mins and the wire wheel to remove the paint and can always try the BLO treatment. I'm really not too impressed with the Tremclad Hammered finish so far (really, it seems to...

Wilton Bullet Vise date stamping. show yours with or without EXP on slide

I just posted this 600 in the Vises thread, and just assumed it was older than the date stamp. When did Wilton change the castings for the 600 series?

With the nicer weather finally showing up, I finally was able to get out to the garage and get a start on a couple of the vises that have started to clutter up the bench. The most recent purchase, Record 83 QR, 3.25" jaws. Will get a teardown, repaint and bolted to the bench. Looking forward...

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44782&page=213 There's a mention of the 'Canadian' vise on this page of the thread, but not any mention of any specifics. My first guess would have been a RAE as well, but not sure either.

Yup, that's the same one. Apparently the original buyer was a no show and it was back up for sale. I've been wanting a QR vise for a long time, and didn't mind the 1.5 hour drive out there on such a nice day. If you're craving a small vise, the same seller has a nice selection of paperweight...

There's a good chance you can find one here: http://www.benchvisejaws.com/parker-collars/ I picked up a Record No.83 QR vise today! Pretty happy to say the least. I am regretting leaving the Woden No.00 behind, but cant have them all!
