Suggestions/Ideas wanted for building had against brick wall

Suggestions/Ideas wanted for building shed against a brick wall Hello, I’m more of a metal guy but I’m about to build a compressor shed on the back of my new shop. Noise is not really a concern because by just putting it behind the building it doesn’t bother me or my neighbors when it’s...

Putting air line through brick wall -suggestions wanted

Thanks for all the great replies. I decided I will go through the siding instead of the brick. I thought aesthetically it would look better going through the brick, but it IS on the back of a garage, so it doesn’t matter that much. I have a finished wall on the inside so I’m trying to decide...

Putting air line through brick wall -suggestions wanted

Hello, I am plumbing my new workshop with RapidAir 3/4” but first need to get the air from the compressor behind the building through the brick part of the wall. Should I use black pipe, copper, or RapidAir outside? Any tips or suggestions how to best put an air line through a wall? Will be...

Looking for feedback and ideas about what you used/recommend for plumbing a whole-shop air distribution system. (I did several searches on here) I’ve looked at: Black steel pipe Galvanized steel pipe Rapid Air system Copper Pex. **I don’t think Pex is truly up to the job but I sure wish it...

What is the engineer's job? Construction question

I am working with a contractor and the architect recently finished the sketches for the new garage/workshop. I've never been through the building design process before. The contractor said the architect's sketches now go to engineering. I asked the contractor who does the truss design and...

Saving garage space - Putting bathroom under stairs

Hoping that someone has done this. To save space in my new garage build I'm wanting to put a really small bathroom under the staircase. I'm talking just a sink and toilet so a really small bathroom. The ceiling in the garage will be 12 feet high so it seems like there should be room under the...

Insulation tips wanted - Building a garage with 2x6 studs

Some awesome tips and things to think about. I should have mentioned the garage will have an upstairs room the entire length of the garage that will be sheetrocked and and insulated. On the outside walls it sounds like OSB, then Tyvek or tar paper? I think I've seen the rigid foam sheathing...

Insulation tips wanted - Building a garage with 2x6 studs

I am having a garage built with 2x6 studs in the walls. It will have brick and Hardi Board siding on the outside with Sheetrock on the inside. I live in Texas where it gets really hot and I eventually want to HVAC the shop. What insulation tips do you have? Would OSB then Tyvek be a good way...

    Paint ideas/tips wanted

Funny you mention this. I got 6 old style spray guns when I picked these up. A couple of them are Binks. I know the Por 15 products adhere to a zinc phosphate prep. Thinking of asking the Por 15 people what might work. I've had great luck with their products. These racks actually look more like...

    Paint ideas/tips wanted

Just got four of these cool shelving racks from a family member. They are really strong, US made. I was told they came out of a defense manufacturing plant many, many years ago. The shelves slide out like drawers or can be removed....each shelf could hold a lot of weight. They also have really...

One large door or two mediums? Feedback wanted.

I'm now leaning heavily towards an 18 or 20 ft single door. 2 doors looks good but I really want to be able to back a trailer in fairly easily. Also....Getting a breeze through the shop is important and it seems like a really wide single door should do that well.

One large door or two mediums? Feedback wanted.

This makes sense, too. I wish the bathroom could somehow go under the stairs.

One large door or two mediums? Feedback wanted.

Thank you. This is exactly why I posted this. If you did it again would you go wider than 18 if possible?

One large door or two mediums? Feedback wanted.

I will be using a trailer to take things in and out of the building, that's why I am kinda leaning towards a big single door. I think that I could get two vehicles through an 18 foot wide door if needed. The doors will be on the North and South ends so I'm hoping to catch our usual SE breeze...

One large door or two mediums? Feedback wanted.

Current issue: I'm trying to decide if I should put (1) 18w x 10h door in the center or (2) 10 x 10 doors on my new garage/workshop? After many years of planning and saving I'm finally getting ready to build. Here are the basics: Garage 33' wide x 54' deep (Approx. 1800 sf garage) 12 foot...

Is a 12' ceiling high enough for a 2 post 10k lb lift?

My plans called for a 13 foot ceiling so I was trying to reduce it to 12' because I am also having a recreation room built above the garage. I wanted to increase the ceiling height in the room upstairs to 9'. (The plans had it at 8') My concern is that I don't want the building to get so tall...
