Can't get the Erwin 5" vise to thread back in.

Can you pull the movable jaw completely off and look down the threads where the vice shaft would go? There has to be something there that's preventing the screw from threading back into the vice.

Interior Baseboard, trim and Door Paint

That's what my paint contractor used when I did my home remodeling in 2018. All doors, trim, and base were sprayed with this. It's holding up great, is easy to clean, and it's durable.

Menards Masterforce (Guardian 928) shaft mount opener impressions so far

I had to angle my horizontal tracks upwards to maintain tension on the cables to get it to work. My tracks were completely horizontal, and the door needed to retract completely into the upper tracks to allow full height of the opening to be used. As anyone knows, a garage door that is level...

    General welding question

I love the "look at me and make some sparks while I take your picture" pose!

Broken bolt/cant weld or heat it

I would be using Pontiac787's trick #3 with a thin kerf cutoff disk. Cut a groove through the bolt and the easy out that is deep enough to get a good bite with an impact screwdriver. Apply some heat to the shaft and then set the impact screwdriver to rotate clockwise when struck. I've removed...

    Maglite

Old school Maglite 3-D cell compared to my Streamlight Strion....is no comparison! The Streamlight puts out 4x the light, is rechargeable, and can fit in your pants pocket. I can't imagine even using the old Maglight anymore. The Streamlight is about the same length as the old AA Minimag, but...

    Anybody had this happen?

There's a fix for that in tight spots! I bought a palm nailer in the middle of a remodel where I was doing a bunch of blocking between floor joists in a 1965 rambler. I break it out anytime I'm forced to nail something in tight spaces.

    Power tool storage ideas

I have a lateral file that's only two drawers high. I'm using it as an actual file cabinet, but I just wanted you to know that they do come in different heights.

Venting a shed with lean-to roof and enclosed soffits

I built almost the exact same shed design. I used slider windows with screens in clerestory windows pictured. I open them in the summer, and close them in the winter. On my shed, I could keep them open all year because there is a large overhang that will keep out any weather, but i dont need...

    Aids for Lifting Heavy Items

The three things I use quite regularly in my garage for lifting/moving heavier objects are folding engine hoist, hydraulic lifting table, and loading ramps. All 3 of these items were sourced from Harbor Freight. My hoist is the 1 ton version, the table is the 1000lb version, and the ramps are...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I'm curious how many amps that beast draws! I seem to remember those old wall AC units being very power hungry....

    Liftmaster 8500 pusher spring sizing

I agree with slanting of the tracks. My door, when fully open, was exactly level with the ground. I could unhook everything and the door wouldn't fall down, so releasing the tension on the cables wasn't going to lower the door. I could of put some pusher springs on the door, but I felt that...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

45k isn't a lot of miles for a fuel pump! Im guessing its an in-tank pump? Are you regularly running your tank down to the bottom? One of my buddies was always running his Chevy truck down with the fuel light on and was burning up pumps. His mechanic said to keep the tank filled up at least 1/2...

Looking for advice on how to properly sister rafters in an old building

Ditto on the palm nailer. Once you have one of those, you'll ask yourself why you didn't have it sooner! They're great when you're in tight spaces where a big gun won't begin to fit!

Is there an easy way to replace this valve? Plumbing question....

I would skip the big box/general hardware stores when sourcing plumbing parts such as these. I would head to your local plumbing store where the people that do it for a living shop. You will get someone that probably knows the manufacturer of that valve, and you'll stand a better chance of...

Jackshaft Garage Door Openers: Which will be best for cost vs. return (Bang for the buck)?

This is it exactly. My door, in the all the way up position, will stay in that position. You can unhook the cables (taking the springs completely out of the equation) and the door will still stay in that position. My tracks were perfectly level, so I would expect the door to stay put. Thinking...

Jackshaft Garage Door Openers: Which will be best for cost vs. return (Bang for the buck)?

I just installed a Chamberlain RJ070 wall mount jackshaft opener last week. I love the features of being able to remotely control/view the garage door, create rules to close the door under set conditions, and the quiet operation of the unit. I did run into an install issue. My garage overhead...

Beware of scammers on the other major sites to buy tools

One new one I just discovered was through a item I was selling on Ebay. The item sold, and within a minute I get an email replying "Thanks for the great deal! I'm at my grandfather's for the next couple of weeks. Please mail the package to ....." The email was through the Ebay message app, so...

    The Everything 3D Printer Thread

I needed a couple of those back when I had my Craftsman box! The box has since been sold, but I put up with poor drawer closing detents on a couple of drawers for 15+ years.

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

In my book, the Craftsman name is a reason to steer away from the item beingng sold. The once trusted name that stood for their middle of the road tools has been diminished to a marketing gimmic for sub standard tools. Sad, but true.
