How to clean this alum Timing Chain cover???

Nah, then it might be too much contrast against the older parts. However, I will spray it thoroughly with some protective coating. Got any ideas? I still can't believe the brand new part is so cheap, haha. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it pop up on my screen. Best part is: I wasn't...

How to clean this alum Timing Chain cover???

Thanks for the replies. You all had some good ideas. But then I was looking to buy some other Ford parts, and I saw the cover - BRAND NEW - with a tensioner and pulleys (pic below)...... for $157! I was honestly shocked that it was so cheap. :D It seems like a LOT of work and aggravation to try...

How to clean this alum Timing Chain cover???

I have pristine supercharged Roush Mustang, and I'm re-doing the timing chains. This cover is exceptionally dirty. The rest of the car is actually very clean. When I go to cruise nights or shows, the hood is often up, and this cover is probably the most visible engine part. For a normal car, I...

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

Here it is... cleaned, painted, new bearing pressed-in, bonded and lightly staked. Thanks again to everyone, and especially @rlitman for the staking tip, that worked perfectly!

YES! There ya go, that's the answer for my application. Thanks very much................ (y)

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

Have you done staking with just a punch and hammer?? I have full set of tools, but have actually never staked anything before. It looks like it would be easy to have the punch slide off and ruin the brand new bearing that is now bonded into place, which would ****.

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

Dang, you guys got me worried, haha. I wonder if I should be using a primer. @rlitman is correct, it is steel-to-steel. I don't care how long the full setup time is, their Tech guy said 24 hours, that's fine with me. I think I will be calling their tech line again to ask about the primer.

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

UPDATE - I called the tech line at LOCTITE to ask about cleaning chemicals. Very easy to get through, nice folks. The LOCTITE tech guy said Acetone would be his #1 choice for cleaning the surfaces prior to applying the R-680. Thanks for help everyone! Much appreciated................

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

I have brake cleaner, D/A and acetone in my shop here, but was concerned that it might have to be some very specific cleaning chemical(s). I am worried about any cleaning chemical residue that might somehow negatively react with the 680 compound...............

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

Ahhh, many thanks. I read through their TDS and it specifically references to clean with a "LOCTITE Solvent". Do you happen to know what that solvent is? Is it something (a certain chemical) I can buy locally? Thanks again................ ;)

Press-in bearing - Can I use LOCTITE in place of staking?

I am replacing a press-in bearing on the main drive pulley assembly on my supercharged Roush Ford Mustang. The assembly is shown below in Pic #3. A close-up of the bearing, showing it staked in place, is in Pic #4. And Pic #5 shows it all apart, after grinding out the little stake tabs and...

Anyone here done solar panels on roof? Pros? Cons? Is it worth it?

Great reply, thanks. Are you an electrician?? I was thinking of making my own battery packs but just don't have the knowledge or skills to construct the packs, and monitor them all, and wire them in.

Anyone here done solar panels on roof? Pros? Cons? Is it worth it?

I live in Northeast (Rhode Island). I am considering solar panels on roof (proposal pic below). Lots of incentives, but it will still cost me some money. My local rates will be increasing quite a bit, so it may be a good time to do this. But I'm just not sure on the whole solar gig. I'm 100% for...

How to make a sliding screen door squirrel proof?

I actually thought about all of these options, haha. The little buggers can jump so freakin high I would have to cover almost the whole screen with plexi, and at that point.... why have a screen door! In my younger days, I would indeed shoot them, but now at 71, I have no desire to harm anyone...

How to make a sliding screen door squirrel proof?

Good idea, I will look around for some metal trim pieces that could work. They might have something like that at one of the big box stores. Thanks

How to make a sliding screen door squirrel proof?

Squirrels like to climb on my sliding screen door. They don't do any damage to the screen, so I don't really care about that part of the problem.... BUT.... they ruin it in another way, they pull it apart. The screen comes out of the tracks (shown in pic below). I put this screen on just a few...

    Harbor Freight Electric Pole Saw

I've had a couple of different ones of these. They need diligent maintenance (cleaning, oil & adjusting), otherwise they wear out (or break) fast. Also, keep the blade sharp and don't overload the motor.
