    Scotts Home Shop

Had some more Snap-on promo stuff from my dads old truck. This was a display for scanners. Installed all the air line. Just waiting on a whip hose for the ceiling mounted hose reel. Got more done on the C10 as well. LS installed... kind of. The mounts are wrong. It fits but not like it...

Thanks cajun... I don't think anyone willingly moves to Oklahoma unless its job or family related. That said, the people here are awesome. I didn't think any place was friendlier than Texas but Oklahoma could beat them. Much better than Denver or Alberta, Canada. Those were the most unwelcoming...

Tough crowd... I got my cold saw and grinder wired finally. I loath fishing wire and thats probably the only reason it has taken this long. Its done and it works. Especially heavy gauge wire. It doesn't like to bend very well. Needed these hooked up to cut and finish the steering column...

Got the lift installed today. I decided at the last minute to have it installed vs doing it myself. This 40 year old body has years abuse on it (rugby, wrestling, etc...) and I forget that I can't do it all myself anymore. Wife talked me into the installation in all honesty. Glad she did. Those...

The guy I bought it off of said it was tractor paint... LOL. Its a metallic tan with a matt finish. I love the look of it but the body work is less than desirable. They replaced some cosmetic things but nothing structural. It needs a new floor structure on the cab so the color may change when I...

Got the LS and 4L60E. Headers, rad, and other stuff is showing up daily. Lift is scheduled to be installed Thursday. For those with 2 post lifts, how far from the garage door did you install your lift? I know there is a standard of about 12ft but I want as much room in front of the lift as...

Got the ginormous screw driver and wrench up... Mounted some other memorabilia and got some more floor space back but didn't bother taking pictures. It was too hot to work in garage today and had other honey do things to take care of. This coming week should have lots of updates.

Got 4 of the lights in. Trying to decide if I need the other 2. The lights are incredible. They offer task lighting almost anywhere in the garage and are not harsh like my old LED lights from my previous garage. Either way I like it! Before: Also got the brake booster and new master cylinder...

I am in Oklahoma, sublime... Lights showed up! These things are heavy! For what they cost, I was disappointed they didn't include mounting hooks. Oh well. Off to Home Depot. Also had the brake booster and master cylinder arrived today. Grabbed my son and got to it. Here is the old manual...

I get moved around a lot and have had many garages. That said, each time I get more and more organized. Judging by the picture below, you would think otherwise but the moving truck just left a week ago. Stay tuned. I am hoping this is the last time I get transferred so I am spending some money...

Machinists, where do you order stock from?

I never get hourly rates quote. The 3 shops I use quote the drawing for an out the door price. A 60" x 2" A36 shaft with a keyways milled into and a couple inset groves for retaining rings cost me anywhere from $1100 to $1700 depending on the shop and how busy they are.

Machinists, where do you order stock from?

I live in Conroe, TX (just north of Houston). I make sheaves and spoolers for control line installation for oil and gas wells and power line installations. Nothing really complicated but I do so much of it that I am starting to tackle it myself. Machine shop prices have been creeping up...

Machinists, where do you order stock from?

The only thing that comes up for "local metal suppliers" is tube steel, sheet steel, etc. I am looking for billet blocks, round bar sections, etc... The machine shops I used to help out at always had their raw metal delivered via UPS or FedEx. I can't believe how hard it is to find this stuff.

Machinists, where do you order stock from?

I recently got a HAAS VF2 for a "i hate you, die now" deal. I am wondering where one would buy/order blocks of steel, Aluminum, Stainless, etc... What are stock sizes, etc... The guy I got the mill from says there are mail order places but he wasn't very helpful. Please help. Thanks

    CAD Program

Learning how to draw in these programs is the hard part. I use Autodesk products for my business (simulations, modeling, design and analysis). I started with Solidworks which was easy to learn. If you are starting out or just want to learn how to draw, Sketch-up is a great tool and free...

My 22X24 Detached Garage - Alberta - Any input welcome!

Good on ya for doing the doing the framing and concrete yourself. Calgary is stupidly overpriced on trades (and real-estate). I was transferred from Calgary 3 years to Texas. Will never go back. Go as high as you can with your overall building height and if there is room in your budget, zoning...

Dear Houston, Where can I buy small qty metal?

Triple S is awesome but they sell full length steel and full size sheets. While that is great when I need a lot of steel, They lack in the small quantity. I am aware of these places. Shipping is restrictive... see original post. Again, Shipping is restrictive. Really!?!? Not in Houston...
