My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

Spent a fair amount of time trying to determine HVAC plans for the house & porch (how to integrate new space and improve circulation in old spaces). I cleaned up a bit and added vapor barrier to the ceiling a little over half way across: I set up the sawhorses and started putting clear on the...

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

I went ahead and replaced all the faces of the railings due to bug issues. It took me a while to dig up 4 pieces of cedar that were decent enough for use. I went ahead and replaced all of them. The old boards were PT - however, I'm guessing they were painted while wet or something because...

Good to know. Since the weight ropes were broken I wasn't sure.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

I did this previously with little success. It turns out the driving rain with 20-50mph winds has a better penetrating capacity. Also my spigot is on the opposite side of the home so would require a hose longer than 50'. In my case I have to double up and one of the hoses is in use on the garden...

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

I replaced it. There were reasons I couldn't work on the porch that night. Since my home is frequently inspected and one of the requirements is no peeling paint and no bug infestations - it was ideal to get that worked out quickly.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

With the discovery that the windows are double hung also came the realization that if I removed the upper piece of trim, the upper sash would fall out of the frame. I trimmed a 2x4 to tack into place and hold everything together. All wrapped up with the upper trim and siding FINALLY removed...

    Pole barn loft joist size

Another option to consider is finding #1/DSS/MSR lumber if you want to stretch farther. I'm digging through my shed build. I did a small loft. 12' 8" span 2"x8" SYP Designed for 30 lbs dead 10 lbs live (loft light duty storage) - I'm confident it could hold an engine block on a pallet. I...

EGO 52" Electric Zero Turn Mower - An Ongoing Review

We are in July now. I'll have to check the hour meter on the mower. Only new thing is I ran into a piece of rebar on the last mow. No lasting damage but I'm planning to buy a set of blades to swap out - so I'll be interested to see how that procedure goes compared to the Kubota. There's no...

Storm Door Replacement - what do I need to know?

Make sure your trim is sound and square. Nothing slows a project down like finding out you need more things from the store than you planned on. You'll likely need a second human to help raise the door while it is screwed in place.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

Well it's not a ton of an update but things are continuing to move along: Wife is pleased. I'm fine with that as well. As I tell her, my role is to figure out whatever is inside her head and then make it come out better. It's tough to do the mind-reading. Starting to get the "cabin" feel to it.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

I was hesitant to spend so much more - but I'm hoping never to deal with it again and the long term parts availability looks good. There was a slight leak at first when open - but that seems to have sealed itself off nicely after a day of operation. The "flow meter" is a nice touch.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

First, a bit of good news. We finally got some rain last night and it appears the storm door has eliminated any leaks around the door. In some less good news I've spent most of the week staring at this: My hydrant sprung a leak (rusted out) and was causing some major underground issues...

EGO 52" Electric Zero Turn Mower - An Ongoing Review

I didn't have any slow down. It's possible that the 12AH batteries have a higher amperage output from the BMS. It's also possible that if I had the blades on high and the speed on high I could have noticed more.

EGO 52" Electric Zero Turn Mower - An Ongoing Review

I thought I was going to fully deplete the battery last night. Mowed the full property twice (2 acres) and used it for hauling bricks around and a few other around the yard tasks. The battery got down to 5% but it kept on mowing. I thought the shutoff was around 6 or 7% but I guess not. When I...

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

Well marginal progress over the last few months. While trimming back some original bead board I nicked the neutral on one of the roughed in circuits and had to wait a while on the electrician. This weekend I finally made some advances. After a little scrambling around and trying to remember...

EGO 52" Electric Zero Turn Mower - An Ongoing Review

No. Once the weather turned I pulled them and put them in the basement. They're probably exposed to a couple freezing nights a year that I cannot control, but since they don't charge or discharge during that time and it's not a deep freeze I'm hoping they're OK. Since I'm lazy I just drive the...

EGO 52" Electric Zero Turn Mower - An Ongoing Review

I "fired" the mower up this spring. There were no issues. No squeaky bearings or anything. My batteries had self discharged so I threw them in the mower and ran around cutting high spots as my lawn started growing unevenly. Then I gave it a full charge. Since then I have done two full mows on...

Minor update. A few more panels up. Slow progress. Not much room to work.

My Enclosed Porch Thread - A project of continually expanding scope

I got started on the paneling last weekend. My wife wants a "light white wash" on the walls. Of course it's up to me to divine exactly what she means by that. I started with a simple 4:1 ratio of water : paint. I ran a couple test pieces before doing a full board but this is what they looked...
