    Moving a shed

Those are just blocking I set up when I jacked it up off of the concrete mini-piers it was resting on. It's now resting roughly a foot above grade, sitting on the blocking. I sistered the 2x4's together into 2 16 foot long "4x4s" and attached them to the floor joists with carriage bolts...

    Moving a shed

Intriguing. I'm going to sister my 16 footer 2x4"s into 4x4" skids, and bolt them to the floor joists, to start.

    Moving a shed

Simple enough, thanks! He's rigged to skids. I'm going to take care of that first then. I'll just rip my band joist off as it is, that's what you mean LX? Another issue is the floor joists run parallel to the side walls (12') so I'd need sections of 4" piping at least 16 feet wide. That's...

    Moving a shed

You'd use that rope to go round the building? I'm trying to picture the rigging you're suggesting

Alright. How do you suggest attaching these beams to the floor?

    Moving a shed

I searched but didn't find a thread devoted to this, and I asked the question in my shop planning thread but I haven't gotten any responses. So here goes... I need to move my shed about 60 feet to make room for the shop. Being closer to the house will be a bonus in the winter too. It's...

    Shawn's 32x32 two story Garage

Are you ever going to put white steelies on to complete the look or are you sticking with those rims? Are those f150 wheels?

"other" uses for a 2 post lift

I flip em onto their side on a small lift table, then empty out of the fill hole. Gets most of it out, and I get the blade sharpened/deck cleaned while I'm at it. :D

One welder, or two? MIG TIG

Not to hi-jack too much, but as a total beginner, what would be the most versatile machine to start out with? I would be doing small repairs, and learning the ropes. The only "welding" I've done is some sloppy Mig work at school, and some Oxy-Acetylene brazing

    detached garage/shop project planning

I want it to be plenty sturdy, as the loft will serve as storage for all manner of stuff and most likely have a hangout spot (think chairs and a tv, coffee table, fridge.)

Noted! This is good stuff. I'm incorporating it into the first post.

Woops. That's meant to say 2x6" Thanks for the tips! I think 4 feet of clearance will be fine but I can scooch it over and see what that does.

Are there any cheap exterior coatings that can make OSB look good?

Ouch! I wondered about those grommets crumbling away from heat and cold. Happens to all rubber on cars, after all. I was thinking I'd stick with 25 year shingles. Leaks would be un-good as the loft would EVENTUALLY be finished.

Are there any cheap exterior coatings that can make OSB look good?

Very much so! I like that idea. It would look a fair bit nicer than vinyl or steel sheeting too. So you're talking 3/4", top quality plywood with a preservative you applied before putting it up? Like a weather sealer type stain? How often do you figure you'll have to re-seal it? I'm...

    vinyl siding vs metal

As far as steel siding goes, is there any one method to install it that works best? What gauge? I'm planning out my shop, and metal seems appealing. My house is reddish vinyl, but I have a feeling I'll have to redo the siding in a few years, judging by a few of my neighbors' houses (very bad...
