Craftsman Drill Press Vise Power Bronze

I got this drill press vise this morning. It appears to be unused and is in its original box so even though I have at least 2 vises for each of my 4 drill presses I just could not pass it up. The box is a bit tattered but most of the label is intact and the vise shows no signs of use and...

notching tool - anyone know what it's meant for?

I think this is a re do of the 19th century Mc Bee "key sort" system.

    Notching Angle Iron

The Roper Whitney # 50 is the fastest, easiest, and in the long run cheapest way to make 90 degree bends in angle iron. I bought a used one 40 years ago and did thousands of corners with it. It still has the blade I got with it, and I only recently replaced the ball screws after 4 decades of...

    Help Identify casting markings

Are you sure it is cast? The incuse markings and the fact that it stands bending suggest that it might not be.

Joic Clawson Hand Drill Jo-Line MFG C0 South Gate CA

Attached are pictures of the JOIC hand drill I just picked up. I've had several of these over the years including a couple marked "PROTO". I think that I have seen examples marked with Carson CA as the place of manufacture and possibly Anaheim California. This one has a hollow cast aluminum...

    hacksaws?

Here is the latest hacksaw, a Lancashire pattern 4 inch. I've had a few Lancashire pattern hacksaws over the years but never one this small, most seem to be 8 to 10 inch. The frame is marked "P A" "STUBE or STUBS" and "17". The blade appears to have been sharpened several times without...

    Wall Vise Co. Boston Mass.

Attached are some pictures of a vise I bought yesterday. I posted a a group picture yesterday of it along with other vises and tools I got at the same time; I've identified everything but this one. I've never seen another like it nor have I been able to locate anything on it. There is a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I hit the vise jackpot this week, the Cheney Anvil Vise was found Sunday and the other four at one yard sale today. The Cheney has a 1914 patent date and looks like a number 40. The Wilton has 4 inch jaws (smooth and knurled as well as a pair of milled angle iron loose jaw covers). It has a...

    Drill Press Table Repair

Cast iron is very difficult to weld correctly. I have tried both the steel and nickel stick electrodes and have not been satisfied with the results of either; even after preheating and post heating the weld. The best method is to use an oxy-acetylene torch with a cast iron filler rod and a...

    Old anvil

Yep it is a 170 pound Hay-Budden. There should be serial number on the front of the base. If it is prefixed by an "A" it is post 1918; those with out the prefix were made between 1892 and 1918. If I had to guess I'd call it a post 1918 plateless anvil.

    Show us your handplanes

Pretty cool I think it is one of the post 1915 planes with the high knob 1915 patent date cast in the bed. The cap is the single setting type that appeared in the patent application and was used in regular production after 1915. I recently got a very early " pre patent" 710C with a low knob...

FS Rotary Tables Roto-Tech Yuasa and Palmgren

I have 3 rotary tables for sale all of which are in excellent condition. If you need a rotary table for your surface grinder, mill, or lathe I have one. If you need a high precision rotary table for grinding, I have a Rototech Model 412VHD Purge. This table was made in 1989 and was...

    Old anvil

For sure a Hay-Budden, looks like the post 1918 style but the serial number on the left side of the base will confirm date of manufacture.

    c. 1937-1938 Hinckley-Myers "Automatic" (pre- Hydra-Matic!) Transmission Wrench

If you ever find the unicorn jockey who actually owns an AST equipped car, please share with us. I spend a lot of time at car shows and flea markets and have never seen one. As I said in my earlier post, I suspect that the AST cars were "recalled" and the vast majority were retro fitted with...
