Anyone ever go back to basics? Simpler/Cheaper tools

Not sure if this was discussed yet in this thread but when we all built our tools it was probably 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago and the cheap tools were just downright cheap. Nowadays we have a lot more to choose from with inexpensive tools brands that actually hold up. Don’t get me wrong there’s...

    Hydraulic jack oil change?

I decided to go to the store and get a bottle of fluid. The first Jack (old black craftsman 3t) had one of those little rubber mushrooms and the oil came out disgusting. I got it all set but there is almost kind a like a dead spot in the swing range on the way up. If you pull the handle half way...

    Hydraulic jack oil change?

I just purchased a new Jack today (Daytona low profile/long reach) and in the instructions it says to change out the oil every three years. I have two older Craftsman ones that I have never change the oil on and they are probably 20 years old. Should I even bother changing the oil in those?

6 point usa craftsman combo wrench?

So the other day I went to go use my 7/16 combo wrench, which happens to be a USA craftsman and low and behold it is a six point box end... So I looked at all my other wrenches and I also have a six point box end 3/8 combo wrench. These to me or not ideal but I already on them and very rarely...

Anyone make a small 1/4 electric ratchet?

I would like to find a 1/4 inch electric ratchet to go along with my 3/8 inch electric ratchet from Milwaukee. The Milwaukee one is nice but it is rather large and I don’t feel like it’s going to fit in many other places that a quarter inch ratchet normally would. Also for quarter-inch it is...

Will the BlueDriver obd ii reader be able to clear an Airbag warning light?

I doubt it. But you may get lucky.... once you disconnect the battery, change part and reconnect the battery it MAY turn the light off on it’s own if the system doesn’t see the fault any longer. No guarantees on that but it is possible. You have nothing to lose, if the light remains on after the...

    Titanium 125 vs century fc-90.

Looking to pick up a cheap little welder for light projects. Which of these would you pick? Leaning towards titanium but again i don’t like HF stuff all that much. But i know they have a few diamonds in the rough...

4x4 tire rotation - how to save my back?

Every tire shop I’ve ever been to offers free tire rotation, when you purchase tires from them. If not it’s usually only about $80. You will spend more trying to figure it out, hokey parts, and back pain than just taking it to a shop.

    New home toolbox

Obviously having had a snap on anything you get will feel a little less quality, and you obviously aren’t afraid to spend money. I think a solid choice is the 44 inch with top from Harbor freight. The series twos are a little nicer but they are 22 inches deep I’m not sure how much space you have...

Transporting a Snap On Classic 78

Good straps and a couple of 2x4s cut so you can screw one down roll the box up to it and then screw down the second one just behind the wheels. Then a good strap (with protection, pool noodle sliced longways will do) right over the top. That will hold it. Throw a couple of extra straps for good...

Socket set skips have caught up with me

Today’s cordless power tools or equivalent or better than even air tools. That being said they are not a cheap investment. They can be very portable and very strong, but batteries die (although they don’t die that quickly anymore). And at least milwaukee offers a quick charger. Once you get into...

High torque vs mid-torque cordless impact thoughts

I have both and the “ big gun” was purchased first. I have found it to be overkill for most situations. Even when installing Lugnuts you can’t pull the trigger all the way because it’ll tighten too much even with two or three taps. I find the mid torque to be much more useful for all around...
