i just replaced a garbage disposal; is there anything cool i can do with the old one?

LOL. Glad you liked it. Great use of an electrical motor that would otherwise find itself in the trash heap. Get the gearing WAY down and it's a gem. ;)

Thanks Ryan! Another HAMB/JJ refugee intro...

Welcome! Good to see someone who's "in it to win it". That takes commitment right there. You going to be part of "the crawl" this year for the Round up?

I wouldn't even mess w/ Eastwood. Check McMaster-Carr for that kind of stuff. ;) (YMMV)

Well.... now we're talking. If you need a bead roller it may very well be a good motor for that. Here's my build of one on Metal Meet. Good luck!

i just replaced a garbage disposal; is there anything cool i can do with the old one?

Yeah, get the speed of the motor. If it's a high speed motor you're pretty limited, unless you want to run a sprocket/pulley and wind it down a bit. Otherwise it could be used for a myriad of projects that require slow rotation. Anything from a clay turn style, fan motor, polisher, etc. Those...

How do you store your air tools ?

18 guage, 16 maybe? A smooth hand, a decent nibbler, and a brake, and that could be made pretty easily. Less than $20 (with time included) I doubt. But, could be made all the same. Me personally, I'll pay the $20 and save the time. Just my 2¢.

    Tire Rack

I accomplished basically the same thing but w/ less wood. In retrospect, I should have used a steel pipe. Hindsight....

    Overhead storage

Another, cheap, solution is to peruse your local Craig's List and look for mobile wire racks. Cut the uprights to your desired length, bolt to some angle stock from lowes, and lag bolt that sucker to your joists. Worked like a charm for me and was dang near free since I didn't have to buy the...

    Help With Pinstriping Kit

John, you MIGHT get lucky and find a 1 shot dealer in your area. They usually have some of the "extra" stuff too..... http://www.1shot.com/distributors.html Good luck. I know I would have loved to have this stuff at 14!

    an industrial-chic space

Also, knowing where you're located would help in the decision making. e.g. If you live in Northern Canada you may need some heating where in SOCAL, not so much.

    Need metal teardown table

Check out Miller's project site.... http://www.millerwelds.com/interests/projects/ I've found some nice projects there. Don't know if there's a tear down table, but you should find something you can work with. Good luck and post pics! :D

Do you wear your wedding band?

I DO NOT wear mine while working on anything. Period. Everything and everyone I know knows I'm married. Wearing it only asks for problems, not resolutions to such. Not in those situations. A ring signifies that "I'm tak'n". If folks I work around don't know that already, my gruff remarks about...

    New for 08: 3-in-1 Smithy - Experience?

Exactly and thanks! It's all about expectations and what a person is planning on doing w/ their tool. If one expects an 8ounce ball peen hammer to drive a rail road spike in 1 hit, that person better have the expectations of that hammer to be coming in from orbit w/o burning up too. My rule #1...

    Do anti-fatigue mats really work?

Well, the evidence seems overwhelming to the positive of the question. However, I will give my 2¢ as well. I'm a Shipping System Software Developer. That means I spend/spent QUITE a bit of time on the warehouse floor going live/debugging/making modifications etc. (13 years) The first 2 years I...

    Cedar Speed Garage

You poor poor soul. I don't normally do this but, I'm in a bit of a charity mood tonight. So, just let me know when you need me to pick up that long roof (station wagon) from you and I'll be right up. No no no. No need to repay me. Like I said. I'm in a giving mood and am a generally nice guy...

So how do I mount this arbor press?

How much of a project are you looking for on this stand? I had the same issue but on a smaller scale. Workbench height drill press and grinder needed to exist in the same SMALL area. So, I built a stand w/ a twisting top/Lazy Susan. I need the grinder, I spin the top. Need the press, spin it the...
