Best Tool For Drilling a Clean Hole in Brick?

I use a hammer drill and it is usually a clean punch and pretty accurate, gotta have a masonry bit though. It's gonna be tough being uber accurate with any hand drill

    Swapped my top

lol, to be honest I can't commit to bolting my vise down anywhere. I just vise my vise using vise grips when needed.

    Hobart 140

I have the 140 and it works great. I've welded up to 1/2" with it (That is way over it's advertised capabilities). The key with thick metal is prepping and multiple passes. 1/4" has been a breeze when prepped accordingly. You will find flux core will get deeper on thick metals. Enjoy!

    Disposable Welder.

I've used that welder before, my biggest gripe is it only has a high/low voltage setting. Which- from a beginner's perspective, makes things more difficult than they would be with a 5 way/continuous selector. This is especially crappy with thin material.

    Welders.....Need some help

I have the hobart 140 and it's great for a 110v unit... BUT... If I had 220v in my garage I would have purchased the Hobart 210MVP. That allows 110/220v operation.

    Tips for drilling steel

So it sounds like quality hss bits may be a better option than carbide, and I need to learn how to sharpen them. And only need to do it in 2 steps, a pilot then the main hole with cutting fluid and the proper speed/pressure. This is just what I was looking for. Btw it's brand new A36 flat stock

    Tips for drilling steel

What is the answer then? These titanium bits are tired and cannot be sharpened, apparently.

    Tips for drilling steel

Awesome advice so far! It turns out I was doing a few things wrong. I will pick up up 3 different sized carbide bits this weekend and step up as most of you advised. Also, I guess I need to pick up some real cutting fluid. The momentary drilling every 3-4 seconds also makes sense.

    Tips for drilling steel

I will be drilling about 40 1/2" holes through 3/8" steel. Any suggestions for drilling that size? I must be doing something wrong, the other day I was drilling through some 3/8" plate and after 2 holes my bit stopped cutting, just spinning half way through the hole not making any progress...

Never operate a lathe this way,EVER!

jeezus. If you look in those comments there is a link of a dude getting completely torn to bits by a lathe. I'm now re-thinking how careless I am around my drill press, angle grinder, and band saw. Those tools aren't as lethal but I'm sure can do some damage. What kind of shirts do you guys...

Affordable, Accurate method to cut steel?

You will need an angle grinder for grinding and cutting, so if you don't have one already I would start with that. I used to use abrasive saws solely, but then I picked this up Dayton Horizontal Bandsaw on CL. If you have 100-200 you can find them used. In my opinion an older USA saw is better...

Plumber Question: Running Extra Water Faucet

I live in a condo, and I want to install a faucet on my patio. I can run a pipe from the water main, but it's clear on the opposite side of the property. Can I just tap into a copper pipe somewhere? Additionally, my kitchen sink is near the patio, maybe I can run something off of that? I would...

    36" Too Deep for Workbench?

36" if perfect for me, I can move stuff around to make room if needed. It's great and never feels cramped
  17. P

    how is your vise mounted?

I was lazy and never bolted mine down. Good thing because having the flexibility to move it around is very useful (for me). If you decide to go that route, build a slightly larger base and bolt the vise to it so you have more clamping area to work with.

    Anything better than Tapcons?

I have the same issue, even when I do a super clean hole with a hammer drill. sometimes they just spin, and other times they bite. But mostly, they just spin.
