Tips for Welding Thin Metal Without Warping?

Anything you weld and cool is going to shrink. Compressed air isn't going to make is shrink any more. You could argue that rapid cooling could harden it, but there's not enough carbon in sheet metal for that to be an issue.

Anything out there like the Ryobi garage door opener still?

Besides the music streaming, it sounds like it's operating like a locked opener. When I lock mine, it only works from the button, disables all remotes and does something odd with the lights. I don't know if that opener has any locking features, but I'd start my investigation there.

Tips for Welding Thin Metal Without Warping?

Hook up your air gun to the compressor. Tack a spot, blow air. Move 6 inches and repeat.

Please check my thinking and math on required ceiling height to work on my cars while standing up under a lift

Should be the opposite I would think. I paid 2800 installed a little before covid.

    Ratchet Recommendations. New or Old?

SATA makes some pretty decent quick release ratchets. Available on Amazon pretty cheap. Made by the Apex Group in Taiwan. I've got a couple in my throw around box and never had any issues.

Please check my thinking and math on required ceiling height to work on my cars while standing up under a lift

I have the Forward BP9. It will do 80" with extensions and it has stops every 3 inches. It's a division of Rotary pretty similar to the one above.

    Wheel Balancer Accuracy and Repeatability

The last two that I mounted and balanced were checked by Discount Tire and unchanged so mine was good on that particular set. They were aluminum rims and summit 225/55R17s. I did the backs and when he blew the front I had him go up there. They balanced the new ones and checked the back ones.

    Wheel Balancer Accuracy and Repeatability

Is it bolted down? My Mayflower balancer would be all over the place when it wasn't bolted down.

Please check my thinking and math on required ceiling height to work on my cars while standing up under a lift

I think your math is correct, but you don't really know where your locks are going to hit and you want to raise above the lock and then lower down on it before you place your stands (and please budget for good stands). You may get your car where you want it and need an additional 6" or so to...

    On-Line Welding course

You might check around with some welding schools in your area and see if they do one day hobby classes. I just went to school for welding (as a IT guy in his 50s) after hours and the most important part for me was seeing it done correctly and learning how to evaluate a weld and fix my settings...

Recommend a 3/8 Impact Socket Strategy

They say Grip on. Here's a green one. If you search magnetic socket disc you'll get a bunch. https://www.amazon.com/Grip-Socket-Base-3-8/dp/B00NY4M2J6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Recommend a 3/8 Impact Socket Strategy

It is a magnetic socket holder. It's a set of splined sockets that came as some universal "socket for everything set" one of the kids grabbed me at Christmas one year. Sometimes it will grab an odd fastener but now that I have the RBRT wrenches, I go for them first on weird/stripped stuff...

Recommend a 3/8 Impact Socket Strategy

I wouldn't choose a small 1/2" anything. My swivels are 3/8 impact and 1/4" chrome. I do have a 1/4" impact set, but it was free from SK. I'd put chrome on an impact if I didn't have anything else to do the job. And yes, those are available in impact from a variety of manufacturers. I try...

Best way to reproduce tube knee braces

Sort of. I have some 1/2" plate. I was going to cut a square, drill a hole in the middle of it, cut it in half and just use it as a die to press them flat. Not sure how accurate it will be but that's going to be my first try. If they move out of position too much, I'll probably just drill...

Best way to reproduce tube knee braces

I need to create some braces for some brackets I'm installing across some basement beams. Very similar to the attached: I was thinking about cutting the length in 3/4" conduit and cutting some steel plate to stamp the ends in my hydraulic press. Then I'll just drill them. The drawings I...
