The collar and swivel base definitely look like Parker. I’ve never seen that swivel lock though. I’d definitely snag it if the price is right!

Welcome to GJ and congratulations on finding a very rare vise. We're all glad you'll be putting your grandfathers vise back into action. In case no one else mentioned it or you didn't know Rock Island jaws will fit that vise. The numbers are: 05197-29 05198-13

I think it depends on your region. I saw this 6” Athol at a garage sale this morning for $400. I think a few years ago if this was on CL at that price it would go pretty quick. Maybe it’s just the 6” range that seems to me to be dropping. Anything bigger than that still goes sky high. I paid $60...

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

Decided to take a chance on a sale with no pictures that was about 40 minutes away. They advertised vises and anvils. The anvil was a very beat Vulcan for $500. They did have this 6” Athol for $400. I thought about making an offer but decided I didn’t need another vise I can’t lift easily alone...

Even though I buy these lanterns somewhat regularly, I’m not exactly knowledgeable on the details of them. Is there something special about these mantles? I didn’t ask about fuel, I have a few cans already lol. Would it still be good from 1980???

There aren’t too many sales this time of year. I woke up at 5am to the power going out from a windstorm. I browsed CL and a couple said rain or shine so I took a chance. I landed this absolutely immaculate Coleman 220K. As I was told by the owner it was used once when new then put away in the...

Just in case you didn’t know, there are other brands that are identical to the one you’re looking for. It might broaden your search. This Dawn vise is the same thing out of Australia. I think some Records and Rae vises are the same as well. There’s a lot of info on this site about the variants.

Had a member reach out and say they thought they saw what looked like my Prentiss 75 for sale somewhere on the east coast. If it’s this one it’s a scam and not me.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Thanks for the good vibes boys! I wound up being able to loosen whatever this was with a long punch from the bottom! Now if the swivel jaw frees up I’ll be set!!!

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Ok I’m cleaning out the unobstructed portion of the hole. I think I’m going up to the next size bigger bolt. I’m pretty sure that’s weld in there though. I’ll definitely use a hex head too.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

If I could get a GJ collective fingers crossed for this Reed 406 stuck pin I’d be eternally grateful! The drive nut is way frozen in place so pushing from the bottom isn’t an option. This is the only other option I saw. Whatever is in the pin hole isn’t the remnant of the original pin. It’s off...

Really only one sale in my area this morning. Looked like it was going to be a bust. I spotted this beauty and had to have it for $5. I know it’s a 90s model and not as cool as the vintage ones. All this business with natural disasters and power outages made me think this would be a good user...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks for the info! I thought Fuller was just a cheaper brand sold by sears. I had no idea it was a Canadian model. I don’t remember a foundry mark but it does say Japan on the bottom of the swivel base. Similarly the Samson line from sears I was told was the same as the rock island vises...

I decided I needed to mount a wood faced vise for softer work. This craftsman came to me at a decent price earlier this year. After I cleaned it all up and made some black walnut jaws, I figured I needed to make a matching bench vise to go with it. While it’s not a craftsman it’s pretty close.

For many gallons of diesel these were my two trophies. An import clamp on vise with an anvil area behind the rear jaw. A small steel anvil, no marks. The front lip under the horn makes me think bottle opener???

Went to a sale that had a picture of a unique mill vise for holding odd shaped objects. It was nice but had been broken in half and welded back. For $250 hard pass. Not to be defeated I tried an over 55 mobile home park community sale. I usually avoid these at all costs but took a shot. The...

No worthwhile sales for me this weekend. I did grab this stuff out of two free piles. The universal belts are new. I thought the handle and screw might be for a bench vise but the smaller threaded are at the end and shorter threaded area makes me question it. Any ideas? Also from the free piles...
