Craftsman 5198. Who made these awesome vises!!

It doesn’t sound like your vise is the one discussed in this thread. You will have better luck over on the vise repair 101 thread or the vise parts swap thread. Good luck!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

No lol I have bigger nicer anvils and a much better arbor press at work. I wanted to leave them for someone coming up.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I picked up this crusty Chicago Morgan 288-1/2. I thought it was a Parker when I responded to the ad. It’s quite a bit heavier than I thought at 5” and 107 lbs. I never see this style with the pipe jaws intact so I had to have it. The stand is nothing spectacular. The seller also had a pretty...

Not a problem I wouldn’t worry about it. We all love any of the craftsman 519x! If you’re trying to sell it you might try the classified section.

Bravo to whoever snagged this Reed 308. I thought it would sit for a while at that price with a missing spindle and jaw insert.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I believe there’s an entire thread here about vise lubricants. Of course I can’t remember the title. Should be easy to find. Tons of info there. Agree 100% with the fluid film except in instances when I don’t want it to darken the metal. In that case I use Johnson’s paste wax.

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

I would love to find an original. Unfortunately the shelf that goes into the channel on the back of the jaw insert has already been removed. I am more than likely going to have to attempt some surgery. Im thinking I can cut a groove in the dynamic the same width as the channel on the back of the...

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

I’m looking for one or two jaws inserts for a 5” craftsman 5198 or rock island 595. The dynamic is damaged on this one so I’d be interested in pretty much any 5” jaw insert.
