Somebody Has to Say It....I don't like SK Round Head Ratchets

Personally my 3/8” SK ratchet from 1960 (originally my grandfather’s) is my go to for 3/8”. It has been in regular use for almost 60 years and still works perfectly and looks near new. It has held up in conditions where newer (and older) designs would just fail over time. I like the knurling...

    Craftsman is at Lowes

I have started to see craftsman stuff sold at Rona here in Canada, makes sense since Rona is owned by Lowes these days

    Ratchet/socket or combo wrench, preference

I would grab my SK x-frames, six point box, ratcheting, zero offset, perfect. If outside the x-frames size range I would still grab a wrench

    Gearwrench rebrands Trusty Cook?

When did gearwrench start rebranding trusty cook? I like this, it should make trusty cook a lot more accessible north of the 49th. http://www.gearwrench.com/striking-and-struck/hammers/gearwrench-69-531g-21-oz-one-piece-standard-head-dead-blow-hammer.html...

    Roto ratchets

I have the ultra pro (carlyle) in 1/4 and the wera in 3/8. The napa one is pretty good but the Wera is hands down my smoothest ratchet, it also has QR and it can lock in three different angles.

    Advice on Ratchets

If you’re not too opposed to round head fine tooth Wright, Williams, Proto (Technically made in Italy), or the SK DT drop in are all very good and economically priced. For USA made pear head fine tooth the only good options I can think of are the truck brands. Since you said you would be fine...

    Williams Ratchets - GARBAGE

That’s definitely the Taiwan ratchet, same as blue point. We have those ratchets on our service truck but they don’t look that bad, almost certainly a QC error. IMO the Williams USA ratchets are good deal better and don’t cost that much more.

    Wrenches: Williams vs Blue Point.

Up here it’s actually cheaper to buy Williams from Vallen than from amazon, a lot cheaper with a commercial discount.

No matter how many X I have, I can never find any...

Pens, working ones anyways, always find the dried out ones pretty easily. Also box cutters and the tape gun, anything shipping and receiving related basically. Now that I have a good toolbox I don’t misplace tools as often as used to.

Can this tool be home made?

In my shop and service truck we have plenty of handmade dowels like that, but we also plenty of spare bolts those sizes and the tools to cut them so it’s convenient to just make them ourselves. If you’re in a situation where it’s inconvenient I can see someone just spending the $30.

Best 3/4 drive socket set for the money?

This. We have a Williams Taiwan set on our service truck that is holding up pretty good in oil patch conditions. If you’re in western canada Vallen has it at a decent price.

    Snap On Hammers Worth it?

We have napa but they sell ultra-pro instead of carlyle. Some of it like the ratchets is the same, but the deadblow hammers are just imported chinese.

    Buying a toolbox

I was recently in the same position looking for a box in that size range and the spg shd was definitely top of the list, can’t beat the quality/price ratio and easy to find. I ended going with a Mac tech because my dealer gave me a fantastic deal. Otherwise I would have gone with the international.

    Show your new tool arrivals

That impact is a beast. Use one at work and even made $10 when the older mechanic I work with bet it couldn't take off a dozen nuts torqued to 600 ft/lbs. Zipped them off like it was nothing.

    Armstrong worth finding?

I know about the closure, they're not exactly tight lipped about it either, they pulled Armstrong from their website and are just selling off what's on the shelves, it's a small town place.

    Armstrong worth finding?

Generally I don't buy for warranty. It would be in store so I can look for obvious faults, otherwise no different than betting on horse races.
