Restoring a drill press for my dad for his 65th Birthday

I'm about to restore an old Delta Homecraft drill press for my dad for his Birthday. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to remove the rivets holding the tags on without damaging the tags and once I get them off where would be a good place to get replacements. Thanks for any help you...

Just read this whole thread and now I'm an hour late getting out to the shop and getting to work. Worth it though, very cool, I love seeing old machinery still being used.

    Brown & Boggs 2 1/2' shear

Looks good, we have one just like it at work. A lot of times the blades can be flipped or turned end for end to give you a fresh cutting edge.

    KR Wilson Engine Stand Parts

I have some knobs off of some old sheet metal equipment that looks similar to what was on your engine stand. If you can't find anything lemme know. If they work you can have them for the cost of shipping.

Joyce 15 ton ratchet screw jack

I just bought a 15 ton Joyce jack as well. I walked by it half a dozen times at a swap meet and I couldn't live without it, I have no use for it right now but I knew I'd be mad at myself if I left without it.

How would I go about covering workbench with stainless steel?

I'm a sheet metal fabricator by trade and every once in a while we'll get guys stopping by the shop for work bench tops. We usually bend 'em up for the cost of material and a case of beer. I would recommend finding a local sheet metal shop and asking them.

    Southbend Model C good deal?

I was in the same situation as you and I eventually picked up an older Atlas lathe with power feed and a good amount of tooling for $400.00 here in Kelowna, BC. where hobby lathes don't ever seem to come up for sale. I'm glad I held out. $600.00 does seem a little steep to me.

What height is the top of your workbench?

I'm 6' and I made mine 39". I spent a lot of time messing with heights and measuring different stuff before I settled on that number.
