VCT Tile, Jackstands, Rollers, Cherry Pickers...and YOU!

First off, my 2 car garage houses our vehicles and also becomes my hang out where I do light repairs, hang a bunch of race car and hockey memorabilia and drink beer with my buddies. It is unheated but insulated and attached to our home. The lowest temperature I have ever seen in there was near...

Thinking about a VCT floor- Questions.

Miata you say. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/281382/1996-mazda-miata-mx-5/page-14 I used a vinyl strip to transition from the edge of the tiles onto the outside edge of my concrete floor. It was attached with contact cement and has held in place for over 5 years now.

New VCT Floor with Tire Marks

I've had VCT on my garage floor for 5 years and it doesn't seem to matter what kind of tires you will still get the staining. Really sticky high performance rubber seems to stain quicker. I have used some #0000 steel wool and concentrated floor cleaner to get "most" of the yellow removed but...

What color VCT did you use?

Mark, my colours are Classic Black #51910 and Sterling #51904.

What color VCT did you use?

Click on my signature below. I used a light grey with black where my cars are parked to hide the tire stain. Its been nearly 5 years now with no tile lift of any sort.

epoxy coated VCT install, plus extras

I did my VCT garage floor in 2006. Had I known of epoxy coating I probably would have gone that route. When my wax needs to be stripped within the next year or so I'll probably lay down some clear epoxy with anti-skid as well. Well done and nicely documented. Thanks for the ideas.

    Wax for VCT???

I just read your entire garage project thread. What a great tutorial for anyone attempting such a job or even considering a minor upgrade to their existing garage. It appears that we used some similar colored tiles although my minor renovation pales in comparison...

    Wax for VCT???

About a week after my VCT was laid I applied a sealer and then mopped on 3 coats of Armstrong S-480 polish. That was 4 years ago. I usually give it a good cleaning and apply 2 coats of S-480 in the spring and fall. This past spring I stripped off all the build -up with a rented machine from...

    I'm confused.

So you're the one. I heard that there was somebody on this board that was happy with U-Coat It. Congrats, I hope it holds up well for you.

    VCT and car dollies

The first set of dollies I had came with smaller metal wheels and they left tracks on my VCT with the load of a Miata, 2200 pounds. I sold them and got a set with larger rubber wheels, much easier to move around and no tracks.

VCT install pics - start to finish

I was able to lay my VCT on a very hot summer day. Leaving the open cases of tile in the sunshine for an hour or so before and throughout the installation had the same affect.

VCT install pics - start to finish

A week or so after the install (cars remained outside in my driveway during this period) I applied a coating of Armstrong S-495 Floor Sealer. Then a day later I laid down 3 coats of S-480 Floor Polish, using a sponge mop. That was it. A couple times a year I mop clean my VCT floor with S-485...

VCT install pics - start to finish

Very nice job, I like it. My VCT has been down for nearly 4 years now and no problems at all. I also went for black tiles where our cars are parked so that the inevitable staining from tires is not easily seen. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/281382/14 :rocker:

VCT install going well - half complete

Looking good indeed. I did a similar job in July/06 using Armstrong VCT. Every Spring and Fall I apply a couple coats of Armstrong liquid polish using only a sponge mop, air dry - no buffing machine. Thus far its held up real fine. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/281382/14

Anyone install VCT under the recommended temp?

I was able to install my VCT during the heat of summer , no problems at all. We often get winter temps of -15C, close to 0 Fahrenheit, and on rare occasions experience a week or so of -30C. My unheated but insulated garage has provided no ill effects on the VCT flooring. The tiles slight...

    VCT score! (and questions...)

I have never used a commercial polishing machine but yes, stains are to be expected especially if you have a sticky performance tire. I run a fairly aggressive tire compound on my Miata compared to my wife's car. Both will stain VCT but my car seems to react with the flooring quicker. I have...

    VCT score! (and questions...)

I store 3 Miatas in a 2 car garage over the winter by placing one car on a set of wheel dollies. They don't stain the VCT with their large rubber/plastic? wheels.

    VCT score! (and questions...)

I've had my VCT floor for over 3 years now and still think its the perfect set-up for my garage. We don't the Ottawa volume of snow (born there and moved away at age 21) but every once in a while I use the squeegee to push snow/water back outside and the VCT has held up just fine, no cracks, no...
