    Your thoughts on VCT.

It isn't the fact that a tire is "hot" that causes VCT to stain. There is a chemical reaction between the various compounds in the tire and tile that cause this to happen. I have had my VCT garage floor for nearly three years now and it works just fine for me, no welding, no heavy machinery...

How is your VCT floor holding up?

I have tried various products and had no success in completely removing the stain. It seems to be more pronounced when caused by real sticky, performance compound tires. Perhaps the chemical reaction begins quicker with this type of rubber. Even on my black VCT you can faintly see a yellowish...

How is your VCT floor holding up?

No, none of my tiles have shifted. For the first year or so I noticed that my wife had a habit of turning the steering wheel after having parked her car on the tiles, something about leaving it straight. I expected that this squirming would have an effect on the VCT but there hasn't been any...

How is your VCT floor holding up?

We don't get much rain here in the valley so its never really been a consideration. If the floor does get wet I usually give it a wipe with my foam mop.

How is your VCT floor holding up?

It will be 3 years this July since I installed VCT in my 550 sq. ft garage. There has been no tile lift, no cracking or chipping of tiles, just a one half inch dent where I dropped a pipe wrench. Twice a year I scrub the floor with a mop and cleaner, let it air dry and lay down a double layer...

VCT how long till I can park

Not true. I've had my VCT installed for 2 1/2 years and not even a hint of tiles moving, cracking or lifting. Three cars are in my garage and one of them is constantly moved around on dollies (3 cars is a tight fit). My wife administers the ultimate torture test as she has the nasty habit of...

current owners of VCT floored garages..

Try warming any tiles to be removed with a hair dryer first. Score the edges of them with a sharp blade as well - they lift off much easier. I've had my VCT garage floor two years now with no problems. I wash it with a mop every couple of months and lay down (with a sponge mop) a...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

My garage isn't heated either (but it is insulated) yet after 2 Canadian winters the VCT has held up just fine, no cracks, lifting, etc. Click on my link below for some pretty pictures.

    All black VCT Floor

My black Armstrong VCT floor has a much different sheen compared to your black PCV tiles. Yours appear to have more grain compared to the more polished and shiny finish of mine.

    All black VCT Floor

I did the black/gray combo and have noticed that its easier to "lose" tools and small bits of hardware if they're on the black tiles. They blend in, even with loads of extra lighting. Its a small point but one that I hadn't considered.

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

Temps - I installed my VCT in 90 degree temperatures but in the winter the ambient air has gone as low as 40*, insulated but not heated. Staining - its a fact that tires will leave a brownish stain on VCT. Most of us have come up with slices of carpet, thin metal strips, some sort of floor...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

I had a 15 year old concrete floor, no major cracks but a couple of nasty oil stains (previous owner naturally ;) ). I used a grease cutting dish detergent with hot water to soak up the main portion of the oil stains. It took about 7-8 repetitions with a whack of paper towels. The whole...

Cheap, easy idea..."Coasters" for your car

Joe, excellent idea and looks very cool. Thanks for the heads-up on my carpet pieces. I used remnants from the replaced interior on my Miata, no brown leak through after 16 months but I am now keeping my eye on them.

Cheap, easy idea..."Coasters" for your car

I know in my situation there's no way I am skilled enough to hit the target bang-on, every time. I cheat. I park my car close to where I want it. Get out and push it onto the carpet pieces. My wife refuses to do that with her vehicle so I bought 2 longer carpet strips and gave her a target...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

Smokey, I have a paved laneway, very little gravel around here. I suspect that gravel will dull the finish on VCT with repeated passes but a shot of polish seems to bring back the shine on any surfaces that I have marked. I'm thinking my creeper metal wheels, scuffs from dragging heavy stuff...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

I don't know what to tell you regarding a cool weather install. The supplier I used advised warm weather so that the tiles were compliant (open each box and leave them in the sun for at least an hour immediately prior to laying, flexible and easier to cut) and the adhesive would cure properly...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

I don't even bother with the tire stain if its on the darker tiles. My layout was designed so that I can park 2 cars on black VCT where they're not as prominent. I try and stay on top of things if my lighter tiles get the dreaded brown spot. I've found that #0000 (extra fine) steel wool...

VCT tile now done. Looks great!

My wife has a habit of cranking her steering wheel just as she is about to shut down. We've discussed this and so far I have been wrong every time. So far it has not done any damage to the tiles. Luckily it is a light car, 2200 Miata, and not very grippy tires.
