    Radient Floor Build with Qs

I installed a pressure regulator and set it to 15 psi. I hope that is ok. Gas guy showed up and dropped off two 100 gallon tanks. They are at 15% but will be filled tomorrow. Vent pipe with exhaust and intake in the same unit. It heats the air coming in from the exhaust going out...

Building a new Detached Dream Garage

Where are you located? Do you get cold winters? I just put in a tankless water heater for about $1000 to run off propane. It was $500 for the unit and the rest was fittings and vent pipe. Looks like you have everything planned well. A few suggestions: 1. Put 4 outlets at each box. 2 on one...

What toolbox is in the back of your truck?

I bought one of these off Amazon 6 years ago and it is still going strong. I also have a bed cover so you can't see it. No one has ever touched it mainly because you can't see it when the cover is on. I would buy it again as it is out of the way, easy to use, and removable if needed.

How much working space around vehicle in workshop?

I will pull the 2nd car out when I work on a vehicle and park the one being worked on near the wall giving me a good 10 plus feet. I can have tools laying around, work cart, stool, light, and beer within easy reach. Minimum I would say is 3 ft left and right and 4 ft front and back. Then you...

    Electric Shop Heat

Think about this: Power plants typically burn fossil fuels to make steam, to turn a turbine, to make electricity. Then that gets transferred to your house where you turn it into heat. Just skip all that and you burn the fossil fuels to heat. A 7500 watt heater will cost you around 70 cents an...

New wiring for Outlets and lights in a garage

Your plan looks good both in the picture and the hand drawing on what you want to do. 1 suggestion is to do 4 outlets per box. Then you never run out and it only will cost about another $4 per outlet hole. You can leave battery chargers plugged in and still use the outlets.

What sealant use to connect two propane lines together (so it doesn't leak)

Those look tapered to me. A little pipe dope on them, but don't get it on the inside of the pipe at all. If you are running a BBQ tank outside, it will probably freeze up. Those heaters take fuel away quickly and cause the tanks to get very cold and they no longer produce pressure. The way...

    Hot Dawg electric advice

I would think you would want a switch just so you can easily turn it off. What is the volts and amps of that? I would not think that 120 volts at 20 amps would be enough power for that unit. In which case you would need to run larger wire.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Finished installing the boiler for the radiant heat system. Gas man comes on Wednesday. Clean off the 3 workbenches. I have not seen them empty in a few months. Swept all the winter road gunk off the floor.

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

So I filled and bled the system. I did not fill the floor as I have a 5 ft loop above the floor to test the heater with before I put water in the floor. This way if the heater does not work I don't have to worry about the floor freezing. With a valve located super high, bleeding seemed easy...

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

Question: I am on a well which runs from 35-55 psi. What would a disadvantage be of running that high of a water pressure in the heating system? Been working hard. Cut a 6 inch hole through the wall and ran the vent pipe which also doubles as the intake. Little scary cutting a big hole in...

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

I currently have a 30 amp/220v electric water heater under the utility sink that raises the water about 40 degrees which in the summer is fine, but the water only hits about 80 in the winter at the sink (water is actually turned off right now in the shop). After all the advice, I will not use...

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

Met with the propane company on where the two 100 gallon tanks will go. They were going to be too close to the exhaust so I moved the whole set up 90 degrees to the left. I had to change a few fittings. A lot of the setups I have seen have the expansion tank just hanging out like this, but...

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

This was a schematic that was in the manual for the heater to get DHW and heat from one unit. I understand it will rot things faster and am prepared for that as I don't plan on using much hot water. What would your solution be for both? Thanks for your input.

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

I looked into a Rheem boiler that had 2 SS heater coils and would do DHW and radiant in separate coils, but that was $1800 for the unit, this was $500 (copper coil). If this unit dies in 5 or 6 years, that is still 1/3 the cost of a new proper unit. You can adjust the temp of the hot water...

    Radient Floor Build with Qs

After searching around the internet for days I have not really found a good radiant floor build. I figured I would share my setup here to help others and I will take any advice/criticism as I have never done a heating system. I am very handy, have sweat copper in the past, love PEX, and can't...

HVAC guys inside. extremley long run of duct work....

A house looses a lot less BTU's then a garage with a big door. Depends on how your insulation is set up. Typically a house furnace is central so the trunks coming off only have to go half that house. That being said, you are using this in a show where you only need to keep the temp 30 degrees...

picts of your in-floor heat set ups.

I am not fighting this, just curiosity of it all because I am no expert at this. Basically it comes down to it will condense not matter what the usage, domestic HW or heating. The difference is domestic runs 1/10th the time so it last longer. So if you a DIY person, then switching out a water...

Water heater for occasional shop use?

I have a double 30 amp instant water heater. I can run it full open and it makes warm water, not hot (I got it for free). The water in the shop is currently 50 degrees, so it raises it about 50 degrees. Works better in the summer. If you plan to wash cars, get a gas unit. If you only need...
