    Ford branded tools

I had a grandfather that restored a 1914 Ford Model T, and a 1918 Essex to showroom quality. They even went on a European tour with one of them, and maybe China too. He also had & restored one of the only two remaining 1928 Viking Roadsters. The only other one was on display at Harrah's in Reno...

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

This looks like a better deal, as you also get the 1/4 in. Hex Impact Driver 2553-20 for just $50 more than the $179 deal. Wish I would've seen this before I bought my M12 3/8" ratchet. :( But I've had the RIDGID 1/2" drill & impact for several years and they're both Skookum...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Thanks again, for the info re the e-clip and your advice, engineer2 !;-) I got the second strut out but haven't tried getting the new struts installed yet. I just hope the spring compressor compresses the spring enough to get the bottom of the struts back into the steering knuckle pinch. Really...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Uh, no. :p I do live in MI, unfortunately, but I hope I must've only had a temp lapse of sanity to have offered to do the MIL's rusty old struts & brakes. Got one strut off— by reattaching the top of strut to tower flange, and then pounding down on steering knuckle. :dunno: Hope I...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Thanks again, Wrench97. Is that mainly for getting the old strut out? Or are we talking about...in order to get the new strut in? I didn't really follow what engineer2 was suggesting w/regards to fabricating the bolt. So I'll try the cold chisel. Edit: Oh, just watched video; so the shaft on...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Thanks very much, engineer2. Appreciate the advice & link. But how does that 'Ford strut spreader tool' work? I can't picture what you do with it.

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Got one strut out ! Status: (for what it may be worth someday to someone ) . . • Used floor jack (w/block of wood on top) to jack-up at bottom of steering knuckle (is that also the spindle?), but strut kept depressing due to upper spring plate (that sits just below strut mount)...

That's a great looking set! But I couldn't find it for sale in the US either. :( That SK looks like a beaut. But yes, a little on the pricey side. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1049304&d=1599531137...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

I'm getting ready to go back out to do battle. :gunfire: Thanks again, Super Mech, for your earlier advice. But I'm still wondering if I really need to "Disconnect lower (steering rod) ball joint, ~" Cuz the steering knuckle—which the incl Monroe Strut instructions seem to be calling...

Thanks for the heads-up! That's always disconcerting. :eek7: A small aside here; we've been selling a deceased Aunts' estate household items & furniture &c, mostly on craigslist, and so far all the sales have gone great, and we've met a lot of seemingly real nice people. Nonetheless I know that...

Frozen bottom of front struts on a rust-belt vehicle; how to free?

Thanks Blake, I'll look for some that stuff. ;) Don't have an air hammer; have compressor, but only use it for inflating & blowing & nail guns. But it's just a little 6-Gal 150 PSI pancake compressor; so don't know if that's enough umph for an air hammer. Thanks for your excellent advice...

Thanks for the recommendations. I've never owned oxyacetlene tanks; never had anything more than the little bottle propane with screw-on torch. So 'Hot wrench'/'MAP gas'/'The blue wrench' all = oxyacetylene ? Yes, sorry, it's the Mother-in-law's 95' Ford Contour GL w/2.0 4 cyl. Only 60,000 some...
