    Same Ratchets as HF ICON

Here's short video showing what appears to be the ICON ratchets (which we all know are re-brands) sold as EPauto ratchets. You could get a 1/4 drive and 3/8 drive and 6pt sockets for less than the price of one HF ICON. This isn't a HF bashing thread, just seems like a good deal you should be...

Thanks. I may have to check out a Bahco one day. I assume it's made in Spain?

Small toolboxes with lid that sits flush against the wall?

How do you like that Lobster adjustable wrench? I just got one and it has slightly less slop than my old Crestalloy wrench. But the Lobster is 10" and the old one is 12". They open to the same size, and the Japanese one is probably 1/3 the weight of the American one.

    1/2 in 3/8 ratchet

The issue is that Apex closed down the old Danaher plant that made Armstrong, Craftsman, Napa, KD, Allen and other labels. I don't think there will be any new part numbers. Cripe is sold out. Not sure who would still carry this...

Single most useful tool for regular joe?

I got my groomsmen engraved Swiss Army Knives. Specifically, the Farmer X Alox (aluminum scales) models. The Alox scales look really classy and the engraver at DLT trading did a great job. The Farmer X is as big as an everyday carry knife could be. But a Pioneer or Pioneer X would be a bit...

Tools You Wish You’d Bought In the Past

I also wish I would have bought some of those (6 point) SK Tools complete metric and SAE, shallow and deep socket sets. I did score some Proto and Blackhawk sets but they are 12 point and not great for slightly rusted, stuck fasteners. I also would have liked a matching set of the...

Why is it the same tired Milwaukee **** always what's on sale at the Home Depot

My guess: Elasticity of Demand When you need a pipe crimper, you probably have no substitute and are willing to pay a high price. When you don't need a pipe crimper, you wouldn't buy one for even 1/2 of the usual price. Goods with an inelastic demand will sell about the same amount even if...

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

Me too. It's probably doable for most of the damaged buildings but as you point out... and this is one reason why I put the disclaimer that these are not professional charities. I hope they can make the places livable, at least through the winter. But I would not be surprised if this time...

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

Bumping this thread with a new video: In Ukraine, people are working hard to get apartment roofs and walls repaired before winter hits. Apartment buildings that took minor damage get priority for reconstructions funds. The apartments with the most damage might not get any funds. It's...

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

I see the three tiers from Pinie here: https://www.pinie.cz/en/wooden-planes/ Honestly, the difference between the cheap and mid tier is hard to tell from pics. I wonder if Poland was using worn out Soviet era equipment when they were making bad tools. When managers were judged based on...

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

Good find. The wrenches look familiar to me but I can't remember what brand they resemble. Maybe a German or Taiwan brand? Could these be re-brands? https://kuznia-sulkowice.pl/de/angebot/tools-hand/keys-wkretaki/

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

Thanks for clarifying, Ryan. Yeah, in the video the guy mentioned that the thing he liked about the new tool sets is that they were all complete. I bet a lot of people, especially hobbyists or semi-pro mechanics are making-do with hand-me-down stuff from the Soviet days the way many American...

Tools in Ukraine & Eastern Europe

I saw this video about a small-time mechanic who is now repairing and modifying SUVs for the Ukrainian Army. The video is interesting even if you're not a tool nut. I noticed the mechanics were pretty happy to receive some TopTul tools sets and some other brands I didn't recognize. How common...

If anyone wants to roll the dice on what may be some cheap German Lineman's Pliers or regular priced Taiwanese Lineman's, here you go: probably NWS rebrands but possibly mislabeled Taiwanese. Let us know if you buy them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N3VSSAM/?tag=atomicindus08-20 I'd buy...

now is your chance for cheap SK tools

"Made in China 2025" is about bringing high-tech industry to China. Chinese workers don't want the low wage jobs that come with cranking out wrenches and pliers. They want to produce high-end products with fatter profit margins. Why compete with India when you can become more like South Korea...
