Ahhhhhh.... OK. Thank you. That makes a lot more sense. :D

    Repairing/replacing termite-damaged trusses

Thank you, Matt. P.E. = Pest Exterminator? Would I be better off with a contractor of some sort. When I've called around for tenting bids, they just look at a Google Maps aerial to determine SF and phone in a number.

    Repairing/replacing termite-damaged trusses

Planning to tent our house to take care of the termites and then have to replace all the fascia boards (dry rot + termite damage) and some of the trusses are damaged where they attach to the fascia. Been poking around trying to find a way to do this DIY and wondering if it's possible and...

    3328 wire for gas furnace

Thank you, Tony. Would THHN wire work as well? I can get that locally by the foot.

    3328 wire for gas furnace

Woke up this morning to my furnace deciding that the bearings in the fan motor were tired after 50+ years of reliable service. I bought a new motor from a local electrical supply, but the wires that are attached (red, green, white 18 gauge) are shorter than what I need. I assume that I can...

Great. Found one and it doesn't look too tough. I'll give that a go. Thanks!

Porter Cable 890 router brushes rubbing on armature

Was doing some fairly heavy routing with my router a couple weeks ago and it started making noise. Pulled it apart and the brush springs had failed, so I ordered new brushes. Noticed that the brushes must have rubbed on the armature and it's discolored on about half of the surface from that...

Dad's tool, I own, remembering him

That’s too bad. You might consider what you’d like to have done with them when you die. Donate them to a charity or school or something. Give them to people who would get use out of them. Just my thoughts. That’s the plan in my dad’s will as well. My sister gets his guitars except one I...

    Horizontal fence without metal

I'd have to make one, I suspect. My local wood place (Ganahl Lumber; not HD/Lowes) has 4x4. I'm trying to use redwood for the whole thing just for consistency of look. 6 feet. It's a border fence between the neighbor and I. That's an interesting idea. They do sell 1x2 at the lumberyard...

    Horizontal fence without metal

I'm going to build a 28 foot long fence between a neighbor's house and mine. They're buying the materials, I'm providing the labor. Been thinking about how best to make it so that both sides look good. One thing I've seen is Slipfence, but I really don't like the look of metal. I'm wondering...

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

Sooooo I saw this article referenced in the electricians Reddit and have to share. What could possibly go wrong? https://makezine.com/projects/build-240v-adapter/

Greaaaaat. I just mixed up an old fashioned, too. And have a cat on my lap. If I yell, he'll make me bleed.

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

Can you post up a link to a code-compliant outlet and plug? Probably don't want to know how expensive they are, but there ya go. If I didn't have to be able to roll the bandsaw around my garage, I'd hard wire it. I assume that I don't want to hard wire it with an extra, say, 15 feet of cable...

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

That's fair, though I'd think that in the U.S., knowingly selling a plug that would put a customer at risk of getting zapped would put them in go directly to court do not pass go write a liability check for $500,000. Damn it took some poking around to find any HP rated stuff. That's esoteric...

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

Grizzly's page lists this plug and will sell you this cord as well. I'll have this on a mobile base, so I can't really hard wire it.

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

That's what I get for looking at the spec sheet on their web page. They show both types of power cords--2 and 3 conductor, depending on length. Assume that's an error because the plug is a two-pole, three-wire. Just for clarity, are you saying I can run 8/2 without conduit or #10 in conduit?

DIY Circuit Panel Upgrade - 100A to 200A

Again, thank you a ton. Owe you. Found some 10/3 in the garage that should be long enough to reach from the panel to the garage with length to spare. Just need to find a breaker and I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure if the existing panel has a rod or not. I'd think it must, but it's a...
