    Show your new tool arrivals

I picked these up at an estate sale for $8 total. 3 rat tail files, 3 flat files, all Nicholson. And one cornwell double open end wrench, 5/8" and 3/4". I feel pretty damn good about it.

Some snap on/ armstrong matco craftsman premium ratchet questetions and pricing

I can't speak for the snap on or matco ratchets, but I use a craftsman 1/2" premium ratchet and it's by far the best ratchet I've owned for the money. They can be had in the store for around $60 on sale, and even cheaper if you use points and coupons. I bought mine off eBay, brand new with the...

    falling asleep on the job

When I first started as in the shipyard, I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic's helper, fixing blast pots and machines, air compressors that fed the whole yard. Worked 12 hours a day for the most part. We picked up a job on a U.S. Navy destroyer that was moored pier side at a nearby yard. Well...

Bought a new socket and it is covered with wax, does not seem to be cosmoline.

Brake cleaner and elbow grease. The red can of CRC brake cleaner is nice. It'll break it down but at the same time, dry it out and make it flake off. We used it all the time at my last yard when we would get a new z drive delivered since they come covered in a half inch of cosmoline.

    The 3/8 inch drive

As an outside machinist in the shipyard, half inch is king. I only recently realized that 3/8" has a place and acquired a craftsman 3/8" flex head ratchet (on sale), and a set of shallow and deep well Standard 3/8" drive sockets to use for our vehicles. At work, most bolts are 3/8", 1/2", 5/8"...

    Hatred of Adjustable Wrenches?

As an outside machinist, since I don't like carrying a heavy *** toolbag, I'll check out an unfamiliar job with a flathead screwdriver and 12" crescent wrench.

    Favorite sounding ratchet?

Call me crazy but I love the sound of my Craftsman premium 84 tooth 1/2" drive ratchet.

    Hearing protection needed. Opinions???

When I painted in the shipyard and used needle guns to remove paint for 8 to 10 hours a day, I used skull candy earbud headphones and put the earmuffs over top. Ran the cord down my shirt to keep it out the way. I could have the music up only halfway and not even be able to hear the needle guns.

Just picked this up, Mac Tools Compressor

Good. We gotta clear out some space in garage to get to the 220 plug to see if it works. I think it'll get a paint job. If it doesn't work and it's not expensive to fix, I'll keep it. I've been needing an air compressor. I just hope I did good with this. And about the hp thing, I can't find a...

Just picked this up, Mac Tools Compressor

Well, for one, was it a good deal, and where can I find out the hp rating? Typing the model number into Google gives me the tank size but nothing I found on it gives me the hp rating for the compressor motor. Personally I feel really good about what I paid.

Just picked this up, Mac Tools Compressor

Well, I was helping my granddad move and long story short, I got this 220v Mac Tools Compressor for $75. [/URL] I'm not exactly sure what model it is or what's it's worth, but it runs like a champ. Granddad says it's a 6 HP and the model number comes up on the internet showing it's a 44 gallon...

Proto USA reversible spline wrench broke first day of use

I'm sorry to hear about the new wrench breaking. A guy a work has the reversible SAE ratchet set in black chrome. The teeth stripped out of his 15/16ths (very bad considering we use a lot of 5/8ths hardware in tight spots) and he contacted Proto. They responded very quickly. I can't remember if...

Do you still use SAE much ?

;) Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis? If you can't wrench it into place or hammer it into place with a crescent wrench and vise grips, it ain't going in.;)

What tool do you use everyday

Crescent wrench or adjustable wrench to you fancy politically correct folks.:D

Do you still use SAE much ?

Most everything at work is standard but they're older American made tugboats. And my truck is a '93 Ford Bronco. A lot of standard on that, too.
