I concur with 4x4Pete. I would have done radiant with a simple dehumidifier - IF I had access to natural gas.
I do not, propane is too pricey, so the mini-split fit the bill for me.
(and I would do evil things to have natural gas. I envy those who have it.)
I thought long and hard about the same topic.
What I came up with was - insulate with 2" 250 foamboard under the slab, to separate the slab from transferring the ground temp as quickly. (this also keeps my floors from sweating on those huge temperature swing days in the spring - a real big...
There has been a shutoff valve on every gas meter I have laid eyes on. Crescent wrench, turn off flow at meter, do repair work, turn back on at meter.
Ah shucks....Nick beat me to it while typin.
Had a neighbor show up while I was working. He brought dinner, but didn't seem to be in a sharing mood. They live behind me in a quaint little treehouse, a few summers ago a young one was snacking on something behind our barns when I got home.
Back to Satans Haymow.
This is an easy 8' deep. It is a 50/50 mix of bales and loose stuff. The bales are about 50/50 intact versus broken strings.
Starting to clear a path to the entry point. Will be nice to know what we are walking on instead of wondering if you are going into it hip...
My cousin loaned me his old Square-Body bucket truck recently, and I made good use of it cleaning gutters and trimming trees. Trimming trees led to the discovery of just how hollow this old maple was, so down it came. Tried my hand at burning the trunk....had mixed results but it was sure...
Getting geared up to give the South Barn the treatment.
As bought.
We didn't get any pictures of stabilizing this one, but it involved a lot of the same work as the first barn. Jack up, build footing, set back down. Repeat. The rear half of this one has a stem wall foundation, and a...
I used DWV for collecting from downspouts for a run to the cistern. Most of the run is buried, but of course some of it is exposed. This was about 10 years ago, and the sun has not been kind to it. Severely yellowed and very brittle, and some of it has broken off leaving some of the...
This looks to be a good project to follow along with. Always fun to watch a place with a new motivated owner.
Like you, we bought a place that needed lots of attention. You are off to a great start!
This is similar to our building. What size is the unit? I am guessing a 3ton 36,000btu with twin 18,000 head air handlers? What brand and model?
I am really close to pulling the trigger on one of these and would greatly appreciate your info.
Thanks.
I'm going to jump in here.....I am trying to decide nearly the exact same thing in nearly the exact same area. Our 64x40 with 16' walls is well insulated with R19 batts in the 6" walls, R50 cellulose 20" in the ceiling, and R10 rigid foam under the 5" cement floor. We are putting liner...
Have been busy on lots of things this summer, found a little time to improve the outdoor lighting situation for the coming months where daylight is in much shorter supply.
I didn't want it to be annoyingly bright, but did want useful. Thinking 1000 lumens did the trick?
Here is the box...
