Garage Windows -- Yes or No?

Living, as I do, in hurricane country, I opted for no windows in my 36 X 60 shop. I engineered this building as a 160 MPH rated hurricane shelter with stand alone water and power systems. 8- 21 inch suntubes will supply plenty of natural light, and a 12 X 18 ft, overhead door on the west end, a...

Harbor Freight Heat Gun and Third Arm

I bought the same kit, to carry in the racecar hualer, my high $ bosch will stay in it's case in the shop. Kind of a "just in case" thing at away races and if the road pounding kills it, I aint out much. LOL RED

    Spot weld hole cutter

I use the MAC tool cutter, in a high torque/low rpm (550) air drill with saw blade wax for lube. I get about 200 holes on a cutter head, less on the late model HSS panels, but I don't do much of the newer stuff. I drill a 1/8 th. pilot hole, it's a little oversize for the guide pin, but much...

How bad is just normal old concrete paint?

coming attractions I'm placing the slab for the new 36 X 60 shop next week, the plan is to wet cure for 15 days, then sand/grind the surface as smooth as I can get it, and roll out 2 coates of a surface sealer like Thompson's water seal. I had considered a coat of tung oil over the sealer, and...

    Gas vs. electric welding??????

Steve, sounds to me like you need to invest around $500.00 in a good entry level MIG unit. Miller,Hobart and Lincoln all make good useful machines with about 150 to 175 amp output, the main drawback for you might be the required 220 VAC, although the smaller machines will run just fine on a...

    Gas vs. electric welding??????

Steve, O/A was the first system used in industry, and will serve you very well for your intended application. a small Victor welding/cutting set, such as the "twin jet 100" will gas weld and braze up to 1/4 in. material and give you cutting capabilities up to an inch or so depending on your...

thingies... Jim, those are receivers to be set flush with the slab, (upside down in the pic) the long rebar gets stuck in the ground to hold them in place, then wire mesh and mud. The top is a 6 X 6 X 3/16 plate welded to a standard 2 X 2 hitch receiver tube, with a 2 1/4 ' square cutout, works...

    New Garage

wow, that sucker is going up fast, I'll be pouring the footers for my 36 X 60 tomorrow, but the dry in is still at least 4 weeks away. Block and rakers take lots more time than frame construction. Down here in the swamp, block is the first choice material, given our huMUDity and hurricanes...
