The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

I'm a long time user of BLO and it is great for a lot of things, but one thing I can not recommend it for is on outside wood tables/chairs, it looks great at first but over time it will turn a deep black color, I researched why my table set did that and apparently something is living on the BLO...

    Post drill press

Had to bring this drill press home as the sign said "make an offer" so I said, "how about $5" and he said "ok", great wall hanging art, been cleaning it up and it fully works and all the pieces are there, you crank and it ratchets downwards as you crank. 1850 to 1930 vintage. Buffalo Forge No...

    Old Kennedy 520 found

Last week Saturday stumbled on a Garage sale, as I walked up I saw a sign "Free" and in that free pile was what looked like a Kennedy box and some guy looking it over !! I'm saying to myself missed it by a minute! Suddenly he moves on and I quickly snag the freebie without looking it over...

When did Husky stop USA production?

I got a handful of USA Husky sockets from a yard sale and they look amazing, the internet just vaguely says that Husky is now an import. Anyone know about when the USA production stopped?

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

found one of those sales where everything was coming out of an old shed, old rusty rakes, shovels etc and I see this black blow mold case on the ground and I ask the guy whats in that? He bends over and opens it and it is a big socket set 3 ratchets and a lot of sockets, but there is water and...

    Moisture Question

Heat rises, so an opening up high and an opening down low will create a draw of air into the low opening and out the high opening. Ideally screened and rain protected openings, this works good unattended. Also helps to keep the place a bit closer to outside temp rather than higher.

    The lowly SANDING BLOCK

when I worked we had the rubber blocks with the nails on the end, nobody ever put the sandpaper into the nails, just made sure it was long enough to finger hold it on the sides of the block. Faster to swap out old for new and always holds tight, and if wet sanding you can use the side of the...

Snap-on 1/4" drive deep well or extension ?

Found this gem in a bunch of stuff from an estate sale, is it an extension or a deep well LOL. He used Snap-on M 10 G code (WWII?) 5/16" for the base and M 6 3/16" (1942) for the small socket brazed together with a piece of tubing in between. I wonder if I'll ever need it, honestly I can't say...

    Show off your vintage lathe.

Your atlas looks super, not the usual black rusty grime neglect, you did well. there is a site with reference material at groups.io/g/atlas-craftsman. All those manuals no matter the year of release are dated 1937, you can not date your lathe that way. The data plate and features it has will...

    Montgomery Wards

As far as the old Weaver scopes they can be pretty easy to recondition. The first one I reconditioned you couldn't see much through it at all, it was a 4x so I figured what do I have to lose, I took it all apart and found out they are pretty simple inside at least the old ones that is. They...
