I have a 24x24x12 pole garage that I'm going to have built soon and want to put a lift in. The inside measurement will be ~23'. I like 2 posts because they take up less room. What I'm wondering is where would I locate it in relation to the oh door. I know it's tight for space, but, I'm hoping to...
LLWillysfan. "It is easier to support and ensure it ends up in the middle of the slab. You can spend more on supports for wire mesh than the up-charge to use rebar and get a stronger slab to boot". How do you support the rebar to assure it's in the middle of the slab? May be doing that in the...
How to calculate the total footing area needed, so I can figure number of posts for a footing size? This is a 24x24x12' garage with a 1' overhang, 4/12 pitch. Snow load of 45 and 3000#/sqft soil bearing load. I'm not thinking of the toss a bag of concrete in hole method. This would be a poured...
If you cut out the slab, you might want to follow Mohawks requirements for new slab sections in an old floor. See link.

Anyone ever add a 12" gable overhang to an existing garage? The eves already have a overhang. The roof needs replacing so now is the time to do it. I figure to build each extension (minus sheathing for weight) on the ground . Then nail them on. Add sheathing, etc. I want to put metal roofing...
Hi. I'm trying to get prices for a pole barn type garage. So one guy calls me back and we talk. He says that a pole barn is NOT the way to go because the floor will heave and crack. Of course, he wants to build me a full foundation stick built garage. The questions are, has anybody in the north...
Here's mine made out of HF engine stands. Cut them up and just used the rotating part and made A frame stands with outriggers on the floor. I couldn't have done all the metal work to this Model A on my back. It works great and spins with one hand.
I asked my insurance guy about wood verus steel and he said it doesn't matter. It's the value of the building that determines the cost of insurance. Anyone else ever hear it this way?
I don't know how far north in NY you are, but we have a steel company here that has a scrap room. It has a good supply of everthing you would normally use. Four feet or shorter lengths. It is sold by the pound.
If you only need a small quantity, I would think about making some out of rectangular or square tubing. Take a plasma cutter, or whatever you have, and make two cuts along the length. Wouldn't take very long. That's what I would do (plasma).
