    rattle_snake's random shop projects v0.1

I have never had luck with the gasket leaks on the old engines I've built, no matter how careful and using the best gaskets.

    Show us your welding projects

That piece that goes across the top of the angle has nuts welded in for the bolts that get tightened down onto to little pads on the angle to clamp it in place. I always intended to add an arch piece of steel across the top of it because it flexes some when tightening, but it works as is, so...

    Show us your welding projects

Hey, your brake looks a little like my monstrosity! I made mine to bolt to my 1/2 inch steel workbench table. There are things I would do differently if I did it again but I have bent a ton of stuff on it, super handy. I have a couple smaller finger sections for smaller projects too.

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

Had a rat in our Armada, sleeping in the fan shroud. Made an ugly mess when the engine started but was lucky nothing was damaged. It was being daily driven too.

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

Yikes! Use a flashlight after dark. We've encountered a lot of rattle snakes hiking and mountain biking. Almost stepped on one twice and my wife ran over a 5 footer on her bike (it didn't even move, just sunning itself). You just don't see them till the last second, they just blend in.

    Tool Suggestion needed

12 inch disc sander. Probably the most used tool in my garage, used a lot for exhaust work. I have a tired old Harbor freight one but if I had known how much I'd use it I would have bought a better brand.

    Tig sheetmetal

I have a hand/finger tip control and never use it, I find it really difficult to control compared to the foot pedal. Thin steel is tricky to tig, you need really perfect fit up and super clean steel. I've welded stuff on my truck, you just have to find a way to use the pedal in an awkward position.

Anyone have experience with PVC sheeting?

I used plain old PVC plumbing glue on some PVC trim on the outside of my house 15 years ago and it's holding up just fine.

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

I don't think Randy extreme perfectionism would allow him to do the "scuff and go" kind of rebuild. Have you backed off on the timing any? I know you would lose some power but it's basically what the new car computers do when you put in low octane gas.

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

I have never been able to keep an old style engine rear main from leaking. My small chevy's I've rebuild leaked even though I used the best gaskets, my 5.0 92 engine leaks and I was so careful building that too. The design of the old engines just leak. My new cars don't leak a drop.

1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap (EcoBoosted)

Pretty crazy! You've made a lot of progress in a short time considering the complexity of all those systems. You should write a how to book on the ecoboost swap, probably not much info out there about it.

Puget Dude’s creations and fabrications (Random project thread.)

I'll bet they were really old, did you look at the date on them? When those go on a travel trailer they can total it, not much to hurt on the car trailer luckily.

    Paint assembled or disassembled?

This is a question I have posted on a couple forums too. I will be painting a 47 Studebaker truck and there are a lot of pieces that make of the front clip etc. All the parts that bolt together need paint in the gaps too. Doing metallic would be risky with everything off, I'm pretty sure you...

Unbelievable - Unable to weld aluminum rod

I love working with aluminum and tig, it's kind of like gas welding if you've ever done that. It's trickier on thin stuff so don't start off on real thin material or you will get frustrated.
