    Who needs a torque wrench?

LOL. You missed the point.... I posted that post to be humorous. You didn't find any humor in the comment about stopping when your testicles hit the back of your throat? I thought it was rather funny as a sort of redneck torque wrench. Sheesh! LOL. The longer tire irons are useful when...

    Who needs a torque wrench?

LOL. We're having the tires rotated and balanced tomorrow and they'll torque the lugs. I was posting in jest. :D

    Who needs a torque wrench?

So I'm doing a brake job on our Toyota and I decide to use the factory tire iron to tighten the lug nuts because I broke my torque wrench. So I pull out the tire iron and the damn thing is only about 12 inches long. Maybe 14 inches long tops. Seriously....who makes a dinky short tire iron...

Recommendation for wood for custom doors?

Hi Guys, I have to build some custom doors and build the door trim/casing/jam etc. These are for door openings on balconies overlooking a sort of courtyard inside our home. I've got rough openings and I need to build the rest from scratch. We're going for a look that is somewhat of a tuscan...

    Wifi Motion detector alarm?

Dropcam looks cool. I think I would prefer something though that has a base unit I could have in the bedroom that would wake me up in the middle of the night. I'm not sure my phone would wake me up. But I do want to also receive alerts on the phone, too. I'm going to keep looking around.

    Wifi Motion detector alarm?

Has anyone found a slick motion detector that will use wifi to send an alert to your smartphone when it detects movement? I don't need a whole alarm system. I really just need one sensor that will alert when motion is detected. Anyone found anything like that?

    Question for the pro plumbers

By the way, I filled the trap with water (it was dry) before using the heat gun. It was venting methane gas and I wasn't in the mood for a trip to the moon. :P

    Question for the pro plumbers

Shown is a photo of the old DWV coupler after I removed it. Next is a photo the pipe before I cleaned it up. Followed by a photo of the pipe after it was cleaned up with emory cloth. Mainly I tried to remove any high spots from the old glue. I chose to install a PVC slip coupler instead of a...

    Question for the pro plumbers

I just ran a test on some scrap PVC with a coupling glued to it. I used my PVC saw to cut a slit almost through the PVC coupling. I didn't want to go deep enough to damage the pvc pipe which is why I cut "almost" through the coupling. Then I heated the coupling with a heat gun and used a...

    Question for the pro plumbers

There is no concrete. The room has truss joists in the floor. There is a 2 inch that comes through the side of the truss joist into the cavity in the photo. The 2 inch has a trap on it for the shower drain. The photo is showing the 2" pipe coming up from the trap. I'm sure I could get the...

    Question for the pro plumbers

That might work. Have you done it before? I worry about gluing anything that has old glue and primer on it. If it does fail, its going to cost me thousands of dollars. Literally.

    Question for the pro plumbers

I'm cutting out a bad drain for a shower and installing a new drain before I build the shower. As you can see from the photo, because of the couplers in there I don't have much to work with. I'll have to take some measurements to see if there is enough stub somewhere to glue in a new coupler...

Suggestions for tricky mini split install

We have a huge house and are going to add a mini split heating/cooling unit to an upstairs bedroom so that the room has its own temperature controls. I'll be installing it. The bedroom is framed in an attic area. On 2 walls the other side of the walls is unheated attic space. The front of...

Using tape around heat in bathroom fan?

I'm installing a bathroom fan and the back side of it is open to my attic. The metal fan enclosure has a lot of holes drilled into (presumably pre-drilled for mounting) it and I want to tape all of those over so that I'm not venting heat and moisture directly into the attic even when the...

    Honeywell WiFi Thermostat readings

I called Honeywell yesterday a half hour before they closed. Sat on musac for a half hour and then I heard a click and they hung up on me. Today I got smart...selected the option that I'm an HVAC contractor and not a home owner and I had no wait time at all. LOL! So...the tech told me that...
