    Garage Door Lube

I use Tri-Flow. It’s a oil silicone mix. Rattle ball in the spray can to mix. Put it on everything but the cables and cable rollers. Also works very well on bike chains. Small can goes a long way.

    I forgot how much I love Rain-X

If you use Rain x washer fluid it work nice. It also has a somewhat lasting residual effect should you run out and use just some basic washer fluid. I really do like the RainX washer fluid!!

Looking at trusses, how much space does a scissor give vs. conventional in a 4/12 ?

My shop area of pole building has a 12’ wall, 5/12 pitch roof, and 3/12 scissor truss ceiling inside. The shop floor is 24x30’. The scissor truss gained me an additional approx. 36” of ceiling height in the center which easily allows me to raise my 1/2 ton PU full up on a 4 post lift. Really...

Looking at trusses, how much space does a scissor give vs. conventional in a 4/12 ?

10’x 4”= inches gained over a flat 8’ ceiling. 40” gained. Does not include adjust for truss eave portion, only inside of building. 4/12 = 4” rise every 12” run

How much is a day of rain/snow going to hurt OSB roof?

I like 5/8ths plywood for roofing. More stable, strong deck. Plywood when exposed to water goes back to original shape when dry, no swelling. Tolerates construction delays well. Always had synthetic underpayment put on after decking laid to prevent a wet deck, also helps snow slide off...

    3 Car Garage Doors - 20' & 10' or 18' & 12'?

I have 18' and a 10' on the pole barn. A 18' and 12" would be great. A 10' door keeps you on alert goin in and out. Same goes for using 16' doors, just a little tight for a 2 car garage, 18' is so much better.

Convert 2 door garage into 1 big door

Skip the 16' door and go straight to the 18". You'll never have a regret!!!!! Also go 8' tall with you 18' door and high rise tracks for the door to tuck it to the ceiling when raised.

    Help Me Design My Garage!

I built a 30'x60' pole building with 12' walls (Note photo). On one end I sectioned off a 24'x30' shop room. I used trusses for the ceiling, however on the shop end I used scissor trusses. The other 36'x30' of the building i used standard trusses. The exterior roof pitch is 5/12. Over the shop...

WiFi/Internet to the Workshop - Success

How far can a Ethernet line be run? Also a question about PoE. So you only run a Ethernet wire from your house router to the Nano M5 which gives the M5 its power and signal?? Also at the other end (receiving end) you just connect the router there to the M5 with a Ethernet wire? I’m kinda new to...

WiFi/Internet to the Workshop - Success

Thanks Jdunn01! Can you install the sending antenna in the garage at your house, or does it also have to be outside? I may look into your setup, but also tempted to run a ethernet line up there. Just not sure how far I could run before losing the house signal. I would be connecting to the...

WiFi/Internet to the Workshop - Success

All good info. I tried the power line option from house to pole barn (180’) with no joy. Also tried the WiFi repeater type route, no joy there. Next I was thinking of possibly doing a Ethernet line from house router to barn (220’). Any ideas? I like what the original poster put out there but I’m...

    What's a comfortable 2 car garage size?

26’w x 30’ deep. 18’x8’ single insulated door. 5’ wide curb walk area in front of cars along house wall to allow entry and wide enough for fridge and freezer. Can even walk in front of chest freezer and still stay on walkway. Easily fits two Silverado’s Ext Cab with room to open doors and drop...

Another barn insulation thread, I'm sorry

With a 16’ wall I would skip the 2x4” and go with 2x6”. The 2x4” will make a very flimsy wall even after you put the wall sheathing (OSB, drywall etc) on it. Most wall over 10’ with 2x4” do t fair well. As a minimum go with 2x6” the cost really isn’t much more. Rock wool is a good idea. What...

What would you do differently next time??

As mentioned above is correct. In my case I run the vac on one box and the table saw on another box. Same goes for the compressor on one and the moveable lighting on another. My boxes are on staggered 20 amp lines. Never short of power here. My boxes are spaced 6’ apart with 6 boxes on each...

What would you do differently next time??

Plugs every 6' on staggered circuits. Three way switches for lights. Insulated garage doors for work areas. Couple of 220v outlets(compressor and lift). 24' deep apron out front so you can park a truck on it and walk around and unload without gettin off the cement, also great for washing...

    20'x30' or 24'x25'?

That's right. It also creates a cathedral ceiling which gives a little more headroom than a standard truss/flat ceiling.
