    17 x 41 Project

Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought of that and was going to take them out. Both are loose to the outer wall so it doesn't seem like they are supporting anything. Maybe they did at one time. I will have to keep an eye on them.

    17 x 41 Project

The stoves weren't in the contract but I just figured they would have left them. Apparently they hired a trash company to one and throw everything out that was left in the home. I want to clean it up. Add some lights, cabinets, storage and work areas. Plan is car work downstairs woodwork...

    17 x 41 Project

My wife and I just closed on our new home today. Lucky for me there is a garage on the property and it is a decent size. There is a 50 amp run to the garage and it is two stories with a dormer on the backside for more head room. Its going to take me awhile to get this garage how I like it but...

    First-Time Homebuyer's Garage 16x29

ct96ek: I am purchasing a garage that is about the same size width as yours. The appraisal says 17' wide. Do you think it would be feasible to line both sides of the garage with cabinets and still work on a car in the middle? The cabinets would be standard kitchen ones.

    40.5' x 17' Advice Wanted

Fyrme I have thought about it but will have to wait till I am in there to do some planning. In my head if I can get stuff into the back of my truck then it isn't that much further up to get into the upstairs door. I forgot to mark on the diagram but next to the stairs is a chimney and wood...

Anyone with a wood burning stove in detached garage?

I'm hoping to have one for this winter. Looking forward to having some heat out there. I had a large kerosene heater but hated the fumes and would end up havig to leave a window open or door up and it woud defeat the purpose.

    40.5' x 17' Advice Wanted

I am hoping it won't be too hard to get things upstairs using the front door. Maybe I will offset the built in ikea cabinets and then put the movable machines across from them. The plan is only to have one car in the shop at a time but we will see how that turns out.

    40.5' x 17' Advice Wanted

Not sure if this is the place to post this but I have been trying to find similar garages in the garage gallery with little success. My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a house with a garage I am very happy with. Don't want to jinx it but want to be as ready as possible to get this...

    My First Garage

I cleaned up a bit more and started making a large work bench. The dimensions are 10' x 4'. It is pretty strong already but will be getting two cross braces and a piece to go along the bottom. The top will be doubled up 1/2 plywood I have laying around. I will put a couple of my smaller...

    My First Garage

I started trying to cleanup the upstairs today. I hate how little I am using my garage so I want to get everything I can neatly stored upstairs. Today I put up some shelves and cleared some floor space. The pile to the right went over here I am doing this on a tight budget of almost...

How do I Fix this? and...How feasible is it to use a generator to run my tools?

I am aware that the 8 is underpowered for most nicer tig welders. I am not planning to run a tig off the 8. I would just run new lights and my 120 tools off of it.

How do I Fix this? and...How feasible is it to use a generator to run my tools?

Sberry... I apologize but I am having a difficult time following you. All the wiring in the garage is going to be redone. The issue I am having in my head is the power coming in. I am planning to measure today for the THWN wire and attempt to pull it through the pipe soon. I will pull this...

How do I Fix this? and...How feasible is it to use a generator to run my tools?

Thanks foolish pride. I will try to that. My main worry is that I will not be able to and end up with no power at all. I guess if it doesn't work I will get a generator.

How do I Fix this? and...How feasible is it to use a generator to run my tools?

I have a detached garage that is being fed by what appears to be 12 gauge wire off a dual 20 amp breaker. This runs to the garage sub panel which is an old style with glass fuses. There is no visible real ground. The previous owner jerryrigged new wire in. I do not like any of this. I do...

    My First Garage

The wall is now completely down. It feels huge in there. I still need to do some cleaning but it was so nice to be able to pull cars in and walk around. I did two oil changes and spark plugs on a 3rd car today in about an hour. I will need to build a workbench. I might build a wood one with...

    My First Garage

Quick Update from today. I took some little breaks from working on the house to tear down the middle wall. This garage feels so much bigger. I should have listened to the advice and done this from the start.

    My First Garage

Well I have decided to change around the layout a little. The center wall will be coming down and I plan to put a lot of stuff upstairs. The upstairs has become a messy storage area so I'm working on cleaning it up and organizing it a little bit. With so many other projects I can't spend too...

Is this floor from Costco any good?

I bought something similar from sams club and i really like it. I would do it for both sides of my garage but I wouldnt want to weld on it.
