Does anyone have a Durham cabinet for 6 small boxes?

Does anyone have one of the Durham 6 box cabinets (308-95)? It has inconsistent reviews and I would like to know how sturdy these cabinets really are. I don't believe they make a ball bearing cabinet for the small boxes, correct? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006WQP46Q?vs=1

    Tapping fluid

I drill and tap the occasional hole in steel or aluminum (just a few holes a year). Is it worth keeping a bottle of tapping fluid on hand, or is something like motor oil, ATF, or mineral oil good enough?

Chicago latrobe 150 jobber bits - are they still made in USA?

Are the Chicago Latrobe 150 series jobber length drill bits still made in the USA? If not, what's a comparable brand that is made in the USA?

Y'all know we have a vintage tools forum, right?

Haven't had my morning coffee, so maybe I am being cranky. But what is the point of having a Vintage Tools forum here when half or more of users are posting their vintage stuff over here in General Tools?

Share your vintage and antique calipers and dividers

I thought it would be fun to start a thread for everyone to share their vintage / antique machinist and toolmaker callipers and dividers. I don't have many, but I have recently picked up a few nice ones. The oldest ones below are Athol Machine Co (a precursor and later acquisition of...

    Is Goodell-Pratt still trademarked?

I was toying around with the idea of making a few Goodell-Pratt logo items, but I wasnt sure whether someone might have kept the logo and name trademarked. They were acquired by Millers Falls in the 1930s. How would I find out? I don't want to get sued. Lol

    Craftsman crown top machinist boxes

I've been looking at these Craftsman crown top machinist toolboxes. Am I right in thinking they're rebranded Kennedy boxes? How smooth are the drawers and how nice are these boxes? I'd like to get a nice box to store my measuring tools in, but I'm kind of torn between a vintage box like these...

Drill bits for a tap and die set

My mom picked up an unused 41 pc Craftsman Kromedge set of taps and dies for me this Christmas and I would like to get a nice set of HSS drill bits to go with it. I need 8 numbered, 4 letter, and 5 fractional sizes of bits. I don't currently have any need for a whole set of each, but I plan to...

Who made the best vintage adjustable wrenches?

I am curious to know who y'all think made the finest adjustable wrenches - fit, finish, function - back in the day.

Harbor Freight 8 drawer wooden tool chest

Does anyone have the HF wooden tool chest? I was thinking of getting one for my mom to use as a craft box, and maybe get one for my measuring tools (squares, calipers, etc). I know these aren't Gerstner boxes, but if you have used one, how has it held up?

Making a pin spanner from a crescent wrench

My goal today is to make a face style pin spanner out of a crescent wrench, like the photo below. My general idea is to buy a cheap chinese crescent (don't want to ruin a usa made tool), center punch two points, then drill slowly with lots of fluid with a 1/8" bit in my electric hand drill (no...

Crimp on terminals plus tape ok?

I needed to rewire a ceiling fan to my house wiring tonight. I was removing a bad remote control module and going back to the regular pull-chain. I didn't have a wire nut handy, so I used a pair of crimp on quick connect terminals. Because that leaves an uninsulated segment, I wrapped it with...

    Refillable canned air

I need a can of air to blow off photos before I scan them and to dust my computer case. It hit me that I have an air compressor already, so who makes a good refillable aerosol style can I can fill at my compressor? Since I am spraying air on sensitive electronics and photographs, whatever is...

Anyone know of black friday deals on LED shop lights?

I would love to add a few more of the Home Depot LED shop lights that were so popular earlier in the year (or something similar). Do any of you know of upcoming BF deals on LED lights? No costco or sams nearby, but if they ship, that might be an option for me.

Replacement struts for HF red 5 drawer cart

My HF 5 drawer cart has served me well, but the struts are dying. I vaguely remember reading about someone replacing them with a Snap-on product, but I can't locate the post. Can anyone help?

Wobbly vise base on a Goodell Pratt 168 bench vise

I picked up an old Goodell-Pratt 168 bench vise, which dates probably from the 1920s or earlier. It is a cool little vise, but it has a very wobbly, uneven base. I can slide a thick washer under one side when it is on my flat granite slab. I considered filing it down flat, but that is a lot...

WTB Goodell Pratt or Millers Falls hand drills (eggbeaters)

I am interested in picking up a few Millers Falls or Goodell Pratt eggbeater-style hand drills to restore. I prefer the ones with the open spokes, not the solid wheel. All the parts need to be there, side handles, no cracks, no missing or cracked wood or hardware. I don't care about the paint...

Who made vintage Craftsman combo squares?

I imagine that craftsman combo squares have been sourced from several manufacturers over the years, but does anyone know who made them at various points in time? (I'm particularly curious about the pre-war period.)

    Sandblasting safety gear

I just got a little cheap sandblaster to occasionally blast a few tiny parts (from palm size to about 1 sq ft). I was planning on wearing long sleeves, gloves, an N95 mask, goggles, and a face shield. Blasting will be done in my backyard with black diamond fine abrasive (should I use fine or...
