    Powermatic lathe

I don't have the time, don't have the room, have no way to move it, shouldn't spend the money, and I am moving within a year to places unknown...so why am I considering dropping $350 on this Powermatic variable speed spindle lathe? Talk me out of it, I beg you. Actually, tell me what the...

This is just an Asian vise, no?

Is this just a no-name Asian vise, nothing special?

    My pickups from today

I hit an antique store while driving through Alabama and picked up a few old tools. How'd I do? This Proto 4041 puller just looked too good to leave on the table for $10. I figured it would be useful to have one day. I had a hard time leaving this Wilton 806 drop forged 7x3" c-clamp for...

Recommend a left hand drill set

I need a leftie drill set, jobber length, HSS, made in USA, fractional at least from 1/16 to 3/8. Don't need an index, would like to spend ~$50-70. I can get 20% off at zoro, if that helps. Intended purpose is bolt extraction. Any suggestions?

    Knipex 10 99 i220 ear clamp pliers

Just got my new ear clamp pliers from knipex. The handle rubber is ripped, so that's disappointing, but hopefully my seller will fix it. My question for y'all is: the front jaws meet flush when closed, but the side jaws have about a 1/8" to 1/4" gap. Is that correct, or were they ground...

Securing floor standing drill press to wall

I have a new floor standing drill press and a rambunctious 3 year old who is in and out of the garage. I want to secure the dp to the (bare) wall studs to prevent it from tipping over if he does something crazy. I am renting, so I don't think I can drill into the concrete. What's the best way...

Can a HF blast cabinet hold a Craftsman 100 / 150 drill press head and base casting?

I am planning my restoration of a Craftsman 100 drill press and I want to blast the head, table, and base. I was considering a HF blast cabinet for smaller projects, but I was wondering if I would be able to fit the head and base in one for blasting. Anybody try it?

What is this press / vise thing?

Have the option to buy this, not sure what it is. Prev. Owner made turkey calls, not sure if that is relevant or not.

Inspecting and moving a used drill press

I'm driving out later today to inspect a Craftsman 150 pedestal drill press. Can y'all give me any tips for inspecting it and them moving it if I buy it? I'm going to have to lay it down in the back of my 4runner and drive it for 2.5 hrs so I don't want it to crack under it's own weight...

Front end service sets: OTC 6295 vs. Gearwrench 41690

I am looking to buy a front end service set of pullers. My first need is to remove my 4runner's lower ball joints. I know for a fact that the OTC 6295 set will do what I want, but the Gearwrench 41699 set looks pretty similar and is $25 cheaper, so I am being tempted. Can anyone comment on...

How should I improve my drilling?

I had a starter with a broken off non-hardened screw in about 1" of cast iron. The screw hole was open on te bottom, so I decides to drill it out from the bottom, then thread it for a larger screw. I selected a new #7 Chicago-Latrobe HSS black oxide 118 degree bit and an electric hand drill...

    Cle-line drill bits

I just picked up a set of Cle-Line C21118 Style 1899 High Speed Steel General Purpose Jobber Length Drill Set, Steam Oxide Finish, 1/16" - 1/2" for use at home. Amazon didn't list a COO, but Zoro and HD say USA. I read somewhere that a Chinese investor bought the company, but kept...

Is there any technique to media blasting?

I am trying to talk myself into buying a small blasting cabinet. I have previously blasted a few parts without a cabinet, in my backyard. I was curious whether there is any particular technique to blasting properly, other than as Lord Nelson used to say, 'Never mind manoeuvres: always go at them!'

Jack stands - ok to use after a roll off?

I was replacing a starter today and it about wore me out, with temps near 90, two broken bolts, one broken drill bit, and a very hard to access bolt. When I got done, I buttoned it all up and hopped in to test start it. Then, like an idiot, I backed it up, completely forgetting I was on...

    Eastwood blasting cabinets

I've been casually thinking about picking up the HF floor-standing blasting cabinet that goes for about $175 on sale, I believe. I'm not in a hurry. My needs are mainly for blasting small parts for when I restore stuff like vises, planes - nothing too big. I came across a CL ad wanting $250...

    ID this vise

Is this a decent old vise? Looks familiar, but I can't make out the name in the photo. CL seller is asking $100, but I think more like $50.

Facebook - free craftsman 100 table saw extensions (Philly)

I came across this listing on the facebook group "Antique Tools Buy, Sell & Trade" - user Christopher Simmons‎. He's giving away two Craftsman mod. 100 table saw extensions in Philly for local pickup. Search for the group and contact him if you're interested. I have nothing to do with the...

    Gates belt tension gauges

I am doing my drive belts on my truck, and I would like something more accurate for measuring belt tension than estimating deflection while my fat finger is pushing on it. Are these Gates tension testers any good? (What's the COO?)...

Blackhawk T15 1/2" Drive Crank Speeder Repair

I posted the first part of this in the Vintage Blackhawk thread, but I wanted to just go ahead and give this its own thread. 1928 Janney Semple Hill & Co advertisement I was at an antique store a few months ago and saw this Blackhawk T15 crank speeder in a basket of old wrenches. It was...
