The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Here's a few boxes I've accumulated. The 2 in the middle are fairly new to me. They were too cheap to walk away from. I have another Kennedy set at work and a Craftsman set for bike tools set up in the basement.

    Winchester Tools

I did see one with that handle style. The rivet patterns where the blade attaches seem to be consistent. I'll check the adjustment distance......

First thing that came to mind was a cursor for a Ouji board but an eye splice tool for a rope does make sense.

Does anybody collect pick axe heads?

I did a quick ebay search for hand forged pick axe sold items, no particular brand name, and was surprised by a few of the results. Hand forged anything is typically on my radar when out junk shoppin'. In recent years I have found a few interesting pieces at junk sales including a frog gig, a 2'...

    Vintage Wrench Lot

The Brooks wrench is definitely the bicycle saddle company from England, though I have not seen that particular wrench before. I believe the 333 wrench is for 1970s Shimano bicycle components.

Please tell me if you see any defect in this KD435 tool

Ebay will typically side with a buyer but I would hold my ground until Ebay and the buyer forces the issue. Stand by your request for pics as that will force the buyer to show their cards. If the pics show you are in the right, demand the item be returned, and if returned as you shipped it out...

WD-40 - What is it actually good for??

I use it for cleaning vintage bicycle parts. I think it degreases better than some of the degreasers like SimpleGreen. It also cleans the bike frames up pretty well. I go over the frame really well with a soaked rag and then use lighter fluid for the really stubborn stuff.

Looking for a really tough drill

I have used the Hole Hawg, typically used by electricians. I have also used the Timber Wolf and the DeWalt version extensively. These offer good leverage when drilling large holes......3"-4 5/8".........but they will hurt you. They will break your face and knock you off a ladder.

    Hello

I recently became a bit obsessed with bench vises and my info searches kept bringing me to GJ. I'm a Plumber by trade and do garage sales, flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores as hobby. Buyer, seller, hoarder. I also like to tinker with old bicycles. I don't consider myself a collector but...

Garage: to plumb or not to plumb? Full bath? Just sink?

If you go to the effort of installing a sink and toilet, you should at least rough in a drain for a future shower. If you decide to add the shower in the future you won't need to break up the floor again and the water is already available. Also keep in mind if your pulling permits, in a space...

water line from house to shop

Agree...........in northern Illinois water lines need to be 5 feet deep. Otherwise you will need to drain it every year before it freezes, in which case it would need to be pitched to drain, Any trapped water will crack/split your pipe.
