28x44 here with 5/12 pitch in quebec. raised heel Attic truss at 24" (14' attic section that I had to put 2x10x14' between each truss to make the floor at 12" OC (as per the truss manufacturer) )

so you replace a 1/4" thick square tubing by a 1/8" rolled over the pin hinges. Look safe to me.... should read scary..but that's just me :|

Just put the deadbolt where ever you want (Right over the guard would be perfect) There's not real set distance to have them installed unless you put a one piece entry door knob/lock combo. regular bi-metal hole saw will make quick work of drilling the thin sheet metal of the door.

1/2" deeper can be enough..but you need to clean the hole. I don't use air to clean the hole: just the drill that I get in and out a couple of time and screw in right after.

a patch would always be visible. I would try to replace a certain lenght of the siding..but matching the color might be a b**** if you don't have the code. (it look like it have been repainted.) ps.: don'T forget the take a look at the fondation crack!
