Did you build your own house?

In my case, the County assesses the finished house and land based upon a 1 page worksheet filled out by the GC and whats on the approved plans. Example, Had I bought an $800k house, then renovated it (permits and more $$), the taxes would of been substantially higher than what I pay now.

Did you build your own house?

Much respect for anyone who does everything themselves. In regards to the first part of this post, my experience was quite a bit different. Everyones specific situation is going to be different. My wife designed our house and I acted as the GC. We looked at multiple houses in the $700-1MM that...

Planning for the future... Shop then House build... Advise and Knowledge needed!

At work, we just bought a 1 trip, 20’ container, delivered to San Bernardino for $5500. I was picking up an OfferUp score the other day in Menifee area and the guy was telling me he just sold his heavily used 40’ for $4500

    Concrete Slab Ledge Question

Gutters first. I used class 2 base material and some 3/4” gravel on the back of my shop, all left over material from other projects. Spread out to 18” and plate compacted. It gives a less muddy place to walk If I need to go back there. Eventually, I’ll finish the concrete

Planning for the future... Shop then House build... Advise and Knowledge needed!

One of the guys I work with currently is building his retirement home in Prescott. He’s well over 200 a sqft. The crazy material costs and unreliable labor has made costs rise to the point he can’t even predict his final costs.

Does anyone use white board or chalk board in the shop?

Another idea- I’m using a piece of tempered glass. We had a local glass company fabricate desktops for the built in desks in our kids rooms. They made a mistake and had to redo them. They let me have them instead of trashing them. Obviously, it can break, but I can write on it with anything. I...

    Pole barn exterior lighting

Not needed. I machined a slight taper on the top to shed water and Its sealed with a gasket and silicone. Besides, it never rains in SoCal, right? 😎

I machined a piece of nylon I had. I made 4 of them actually. I then had paint matched to the siding (Pic below is unpainted).

    Wainscot inside shop?

I’m finishing my bathroom right now. Im not doing the board and batten on the rest of the walls though. I just did the bathroom pop out because it matches the exterior of the house and made the mrs. happy. I got the idea from the same R&R video segment. One day I’ll finish the rest of it

think these lateral filing cabinets are a good find?

Ill leave this here. You can make them look pretty cool. This video is the one that I watched and copied. I use them to store larger tools and bulk materials.

If you’re worried about the acoustics, there is a perforated steel liner panel. Who knew? RR Buildings installed some in a huge pole barn they built. it was either YouTube it Instagram that I saw it.

    Metal Roof paint

I was considering this to paint some trim and the roll up doors of my shop. Look on their website. They also offer an oil based version too. Idk if it will work for the roof...

    New Shop Lights

The dimmer function on those lights are 0-10 volt. You need a dimmer switch with the low voltage wires or a separate dimmer switch all together. I have mine on dimmers but rarely use them. It’s a nice function to have if you want to spend the extra time to do it. There is electrical cable with...

Best 'bang for the buck' garage cabinets you can buy at the store?

Yes sir. Its perfect for my wife and my 2 girls. They have their space and don’t invade my shop with their ****! I wouldn’t use it in an everyday working shop but in a garage it’s decent. And your right about getting it plumb and square.

Best 'bang for the buck' garage cabinets you can buy at the store?

I just installed these last week in my wife’s garage. I have to finish up the peg board and under cabinet lighting and some other minor details. These were from Costco. Pretty decent to hold some basic tools and her gardening stuff. I couldnt find anything affordable in anything other than...

    BBQ grill to residential propane

Your right, the bbq regulator isn’t needed since its stubbed out after the regulator. I missed that part. My vacation spot is done like your doing. I had a custom line made up (no regulator) to be able to put the bbq in a certain area of the yard. Heres the link for the valve switch I used and...

    BBQ grill to residential propane

Here’s mine. I had my propane guy check the pressure to verify everything was kosher. I have a high pressure system- primary regulator at the tank and then a secondary regulator at the house (or grill). I used the one that came with the grill by removing the tank adapter part. I also added an...
