Tips for Removing a Stripped Flush Allen bolt

Tig weld a “nub” onto the head of it and then use vice grips. That’s how I do it.

    Insulating metal building

What if it’s a red iron style with no thermal break? What is your thoughts there? I failed to do what you recommended above and Im now contemplating doing some insulation. I know you’re not a fan of spray insulation.

    LED High Bay Recommendation

Actually, during the day, the skylights are adequate unless it’s something technical. At night I usually only run 1 or 2 of the bays unless I really want light. All 12 on 100% is really good work light. It’s the best I’ve ever had or worked in.

    LED High Bay Recommendation

I have a 40x50, 14’ wall and roughly a 17’ peak, and put up 12 of the UFO high bays. I put them on 3 rows of 4 lights, 3 separate circuits. I also set them up to dim. I’ve only had them for 6 months but I really like them...

Running a conduit in ground for future, any underground box?

I did this exact thing when I built my house and shop. I ran the conduit up, capped it and then placed one of these over it so I knew where it was and so it didn’t look like **** until it was time to finish it.

    40'x50'x14' Metal Shop: Wishlist?

I just finished a 50x40x14 about six months ago. Priced real similar. * do a lot of sweeps for electrical at the corners * run 1” conduit under the slab to all the walls. It’s easier to go straight to it then bending EMT up around the iron beams. I forgot the one to the wall the roll up doors...

    Price of osb way up!

Re: Anybody else not doing projects due to cost of lumber? Yes. I have some walls that I was going to do with plywood. It’s on hold. I was told steel in my area was about to get another big hit so I’m scrambling to get some inventory ordered beforehand.

Look on Offer Up, CL, or FB marketplace. I see half used spools of wire in all gauges frequently.

    Post garage/shop appraisal value

I would say it depends on location, whats the norm in your area, or what a buyer will pay. I just had an appraisal a few weeks ago. The appraiser said $25 sqft is what mine added. I paid more than that obviously. I live in a rural, agricultural type area on 5 acres and mine matches the house...

    Alexa controlled Hot Water

I just did something similar. I used the Smartlife app and have smart switches and outlets throughout the house. I finally paired the the water heater recirculator to Alexa and have a built in timer to shut it off automatically. I had my bbq island setup this way and finally did the water...

    Milling about

I just had a Bridgeport project follow me home. I moved it with a pallet jack. Use your crane to get it off the trailer and place it on a pallet of sorts. I made one out of 1/4” square steel tube I had. Move it around and then lift it off. I had a tilt trailer with a winch and rolled mine off.

Any guesses on sq. ft. cost So Cal?

2 years ago, I was quoted approx $36 sqft for mine with 14’ walls, 50x40. That was the foundation, framed, and roof. No exterior finish, doors, windows, or electrical. I had a certified graded pad already. I ended up going steel at $26 finished, no electrical.

Anchor bolts and Red Iron building.

When mine was done, the concrete guys had pre drilled osb “jigs” from the building mfg. They nailed them to the forms. Everything went together perfectly.
