    Chainsaw Chains

Hmmnn, maybe I’ll take it to the Stihl dealer next town over. It’s a bit out of the way. I bought the saw there years ago when I worked in that town.

    Chainsaw Chains

The shop called that the saw isn’t worth fixing. I’ll buy a new one & sell the chains on Craigslist. I’ll probably buy from this shop. They sell Echo & Husqevarna. Who has had these brands? I’m not a heavy user but go at it hard when a storm hits so I need something reasonably sturdy. Hope to...

Do these pliers look new to you?

Tacky to send you something "new" in that shape.

    Chainsaw Chains

Took my Stihl in for service. I gave them a limit and said I may get a new saw if it exceeds. This dealer sells Echo and Husquvarna. Are the chains compatible? I have at lease a dozen chains in fair shape. I'd hate to have to get others. I would get Stihl again but the only dealer nearby is a...

"wire guard" instead of conduit allowed by code?

That can be buried bare but should be in conduit coming up the wall. Schedule 40 PVC is good, Schedule 80 is better, if subject to physical damage.

A ladder is a tool, right?: Should I keep a ladder outside?

Someone told me about doing that. Went to work next day & suggested we do it. The safety officer started babbling that we’d have to get a statement from the manufacturer that it was safe for the ladder. I reminded her we had the company name painted on them & asked if she had verified the paint...

SHOW OFF YOUR VINTAGE METAL CANS AND CONTAINERS!! oil, gas, ointments, and just cans

I have an Old Ironsides can, 2 gallon. I bought it in the 80's at the hardware store that recently shut down. The can sprung a leak 3-4 years ago but I still have it. I tried to sell it on Craigslist but no takers. Maybe I should see if Cracker Barrel would buy it.

    Barrel Pump Sticking

I’ll have to read the label. I guess if it is water based, not much we can do. Should get a more suitable pump.

    Barrel Pump Sticking

Barrel pump at work is sticking a lot. If it sits awhile, it gets really hard to crank. Once I break it loose, it works OK. Do I need to open it up and lube it? It doesn’t have a fitting for a grease gun. Thanks for any help.

4ft x 2 ft Fluorescent Light Fixture Replace / Repair?

If you know how to straight wire sockets to circuit voltage, LED tubes are a good option. This bypasses the ballast and lets the tubes run on building voltage. 2 and 4 foot tubes are around. Beware of variations that feed line and neutral to the same end. You need nonshunted sockets for that...

Yellowed receptacles just a cosmetic issue, or something more?

They do discolor over time. I always told people not to worry about it if the look of it wasn't bothersome. I have faded ones at my house and I only replace them when they don't hold a plug any more.

Does anyone know what year this vise was made?

Sounds like a great price if in good shape.

The hidden costs of NEC's "All AFCI" rules.

Further evidence that wiring is often the default diagnosis when they can find nothing else. My first instructor was a city inspector. Said a fire marshal told him that was the case. I'm sure the guy would never admit to it again. Must have had too much to drink when he told the instructor.

The Real Reason Craftsman Tools Are so Darned Popular

A bit similar to G. Tub was a bit larger, trays too, but the trays fit together similar to that, trays were red. Handle extended up from side, not out the end. Closest thing I've seen in a pic though. Thanks for finding this. One thing I did keep buying at Sears were control screwdrivers. They...
