****** HVAC duct in an attic...

Depends. The foil mastic tape won't come off.

****** HVAC duct in an attic...

Unsealed ductwork and big gaping holes at the air filter connection likely helped with the early demise of this system that's not quite 10 years old. It isn't made to cool the attic...

    Old school residential HVAC tools

I have one made by Thermal.

Well this may be overkill, but 20 tons of ac

Not sure that guardrail will slow down, much less stop, a piece of heavy equipment... 🙃

    Old school residential HVAC tools

Well, except for the first two iterations of the Digi Cool digital manifold, pretty much everything is now made in China. There's way more choices now, compared to when the Digi Cool came out, but the Digi Cool was made to be just about bombproof. I recall many, many issues with the early Testo...

Pretty sure one can get Testo for under 500.

    Old school residential HVAC tools

Almost no one used to pull a vacuum, much less use a micron gauge, "back in the day". I had a Thermal analog gauge, it was the only game in town. Now, Blue Vac is the standard. Theirs is still the best. Used to have a Cooper thermocouple box, used velcro to hold the sensors on. Used a PT...

Replace Two Step Ladders for Fold Up

The Little Giant ladder can be positioned so you can face a wall, and be right in front of the wall. Much safer than leaning a regular ladder against the wall- but there are regular A frame ladders that are made to be leaned against a wall, which is a fairly recent design. Little Giant used...

I bet someone ordered the wrong voltage 😁

Well this may be overkill, but 20 tons of ac

It doesn't take much to stop a Trane... 🙃 You'll want hail guards. You'll want the economizer. If those have micro channel coils, do NOT use anything but plain water to clean them.

    Need air conditioner recommendation

You are looking for something called a "Magic Pack". There are variations. Good luck with that. A mini split condenser on the roof and heads or ducted systems inside would be the most theft resistant solution, but roof access is needed. Those Bard units are likely serviced from outside and...

We've got to get back to this type of quality

Darn. I was half expecting a thread on VW's... or Honda. 🙃

    Trouble pulling vacuum

If there is an evacuation mode, you'll never pull it into a vacuum without opening the solenoids. The solenoids seal good enough for normal operation, but will leak refrigerant, or whatever they are holding back, under vacuum. I would strongly suggest going to Tru Tech tools and watching...

    Trouble pulling vacuum

Some units have a specific reclaim and evacuation mode. If the proper procedure is not followed, there will be closed solenoids and trapped refrigerant or nitrogen.

    Olsen Spec Projects

Might have something to do with seatbelt enforcement. Some cargo vans have an option for colored seatbelts for easy driver compliance confirmation.

    Markers of quality

I prefer Markal over Sharpie. Not particularly impressed with Milwaukee markers.

Teaching a New Welder - What Do You Wish You Had Been Shown?

The above is true of any welding class I have taken. Running a bead on a short and flat coupon, in your preferred position, is completely opposite from welding in the field. Moving from something flat to something round adds more difficulty. Then use your non dominant hand. There's no...

Want to add a Return in the Mechanical Room

If the room is closed and if the water heater is natural draft, it isn't a good idea without transfer openings.
